Trump lies 70% of the time, Hillary 20% of the time. It's time the press and the public called him on his ridiculous claims.

Contrary to Trump's claim that food stamp usage is at its highest levels ever and is still rising in the US, it has actually declined in each of the past two years. The decline during the Reagan years can be attributed to a tightening of eligibility requirements as Reagan sought to slash social spending, rather than to attack the root problems of poverty and dependence.

Notice how usage spiked under Obama as he loosened restrictions on eligibility but that after the initial spike as the economy bottomed out, numbers of new applicants steadily dropped during the recovery and the numbers of users have now declined two years running.

There is no better sign of an improving economy for the poor, as the working poor are eligible to receive these benefits. But Trump lied and said things are getting worse. Why don't Republicans fact check his claims.
