I shit you not, getting the establishments candidate the nomination is a whole lot like selling cars. Try to become a delegate in the next election and you'll see the black balling, the lying and the whole mess right in front of your eyes. I was voting against Biden and for Cory Booker. Then, when Biden accumulated the most democratic votes I voted for him over the orange maniac. That was how most people did it. Same way Trump won in 2016 - minority of republicans voted for him in primary then they coalesced around him for the national vote.

Well, unfortunately, the best way to unseat A White Man, is with another White Man, especially when elections or so tight, coming down to a few thousand votes in places like Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia. Biden also had lots of name recognition as Senator and then Vice President for 8 years. Ultimately it worked, because TRUMP lost! When an election is going to be close, you sometimes have to think about the very primitive ways people still pick a President. Biden had the best chance of beating Trump and he succeeded.

By the way, I'm a registered Republican, a BUSH/MCCAIN Republican. Trump is the opposite of that and hijacked the Republican party for his own personal goals.

That's direct democracy. Under direct democracy, the people in America could go to the Capitol and vote on and make the laws. Unfortunately, if all three hundred and odd million went on one day, you would need a big room. The country is split up and you vote locally to have someone represent you. A few hundred that represents the population can fit in one room to vote on laws.

Then there are two ways how they vote. The senators/MP's listen to their local voters to get a feeling of their concerns etc.. and vote on laws accordingly. The second way is, they just decide what's in the best interests for their local voters. I prefer an MP in the UK if he/she did the former.
