Not everyone in the military is in a combat unit. The nature of combat has changed and hand to hand combat is becoming rare.

I think the nature of combat is moving towards drones. Not just in the air but on land and in the sea. Even the Navy is developing unmanned submarines. AI will make it so you don’t need someone with a remote screen controlling the drone

Once again I agree with you... There may come a day where even the human body is a disadvantage on the battlefield regardless of physical specimen. I think we're seeing that in Ukraine right now where drones have played an enormous role in turning the tide.

Don't make the mistake of mixing social issues with combat readiness. They may have their own merit apart from the military but the military is no proving ground for fairness, equity or any other social issue other than combat readiness. Anything less than that is dangerously counterproductive. Yes that probably means It will be filled with all kinds of unfsirness, injustice and cruelty.

In general, they are mostly out of shape, like my son 18 years ago. He was gamer that loved peanut butter. When he joined, he got ready for boot camp by running every day and getting in shape. He lost nearly 30 pounds in Infantry boot camp. He was such a stellar looking individual he went to the Honor Guard in DC for his first assignment. He went from couch potato to Army recruiting commercial.

I think the nature of combat is changing.
The Ukrainian war is showing the dominance of drones in both the air and at sea. Ukraine chased the Russian fleet out of the Black Sea using naval drones to attack ships.
More Russian tanks are being killed by drones than by handheld rockets.

With the emergence of AI, I can see swarms of drones attacking a target acting as a single AI controlled network.
