Trump has said that former presidents can take classified documents home. LieA mistake? That wasn't a mistake he intentionally took documents that he knew he wasn't allowed to take.
Trump had been torn up classified documents and then taped backed together by Trump when they were returned to NARA. As a civilian he cannot tear up classified documents.
Nixon did the same thing.
Trump returned 15 boxes and claim that there were no more documents. This was a lie and they raided his home to find more boxes.
Biden obviously took home classified document. He later discovered that he had these documents and promptly returned them.
They are two different circumstances
Bottom line, If trump returned all the document when he returned 15 boxes then it would have been over.
They are going after Trump because he willfully refused to turn over the documents after multiple requests. He claimed various lies that he declassified them. He lied about returning all the boxes. He claimed former presidents can keep records. It is a lie as they go to the presidential library.
So Trump lied, destroyed documents as a civilian, and refused to turn over the documents.
Biden did not do any of the above. He returned then when he found out the mistake that was done.
Its not unusual that presidents and vp take classified documents home. Biden obviously forgot about them.
Yes it was a mistake and he voluntarily corrected it.
This is different from Trumps handling of the situation. Trump did this on purpose, lied. torn up documents, with no remorse.
Biden was careless. It does seem that VP and president can take them home while in office.

Even Mike Pence was under investigation concerning handling of classified documents. . He was recently cleared of any wrongdoing.

The documents that were found are related to the Obama era of presidency. Yes he was a Senator in the past.He has documents from when he was a senator.

Joe Biden - approximately 25 to 30 classified government documents were discovered and yes some stories are saying while he was Senator.He took them and put them in his house
Trump had 184 classified documents that he took home and NARA retrieved in Jan 18 2022
Aug - approximately 103 more documents found in his home during the raid.
Some records were torn up. NARA had to piece them back together
