The people want all gov't. fraud and waste to end, if that includes headstart, so be it.

There is little evidence that children in head start programs after the 1980s do one whit better academically or socially overall than those not participating in head start programs. There were some statistical benefits for students in the 1980s and earlier before the schools started being leftwing woke institutions. Before the Department of Education became just another leftwing vehicle for that matter.

Statistics re graduation rates and better performance of head start kids are worthless considering the cultural shifts over the last four decades. Standards for graduation are much lower now, and of course parents who care enough to put their kids into a Head Start program to begin with are going to benefit their kids in many other ways as well. There is no way to know whether it was Head Start or the home culture that affected a student's success.

Head Start should never have been a federal program to begin with and it is high time that it be taken over by the states if they want to provide it. Or let the private sector do it as they will do it far more effectively and economically than government ever will.

Hopefully Trump's economic reforms and economic stimulus will help restore many family's ability to thrive on one income so lack of a government baby sitting service won't be so hard on anybody.

Education has always largely been a state and local responsibility. The federal government does not need to be involved. While I agree it's problematic to suddenly yank funds without warning, all of these non-essential functions need to be defunded. The federal government is $35 trillion in debt and climbing. I'm glad to see someone finally taking this problem seriously.
