Zone1 Have we lost The Bible Story?

You will be destroyed. Even the memory of you will cease so that others won't grieve forever over your fate. It will be as if you never existed.
So being dead will be just like it was for me before I was born? Works for me since grief is ephemeral. I don't grieve much for my great great great grandparents, it's almost like they never existed.

Not to worry, you won't feel any pain. The good news is that you won't face this choice until the second resurrection during the reign of Christ on earth. :)
What choice will I face?

Aren't we all liars and deceivers to some degree?
Are you truthful to an even greater degree? The Bible notes early on, humanity incurred brokenness (some brokenness). Not all things are somewhat broken become useless. The Bible also notes that we all have that spark of divinity, and that we should look for that spark in our fellow man.
So is heaven just something good I'll be missing out on but I won't be punished for my lack of faith since hell is not for mortals, no matter how bad? Do I have that right?
One can enter God's Kingdom, Kingdom living, during our life on earth. That is something good here. Are you missing out on goodness here?

Choosing separation from God is for every mortal who makes that choice. Did you choose--or not choose--God today? Are you happy and fulfilled by the decision you made?

Is this point more salient than God's love and redemption of the world? And, that our battles with faith are God's battles?

really, their battle was long ago, they won same for anyone else to free their spirit and be admitted to the everlasting no one but themself can accomplish the goal.

- obviously, heavens love is selective and surly as fleeting as given.

I like to think so. So is the winning measure 51-49, 60-40, or 90-10? How do you know?

Not sure what to make of that? We're all somewhat broken and I'm sure we're all useless to God.

Nice thought.

I don't believe so. By definition.

Nonsensical questions for an atheist. Analogous to "Choosing separation from Zeus is for every mortal who makes that choice. Did you choose--or not choose--Zeus today? Are you happy and fulfilled by the decision you made?"

It has nothing to do with winning. In your present condition are you useful? You can answer this question by studying your conscience. What were your contributions to the day? What were your failures?

I did not choose Zeus today. Did you know Zeus feared having a son that was more powerful than he? What kind of father is that. Zeus was not a faithful husband. What kind of bridegroom is that.

In Catholicism, "hell" is generally understood to be saying no to God's kingdom and life with him...pretty much going one's separate way. We no longer have God battling for us.

Yes, this is expected in a works-based religion. IOW, God is hostage to human mindset, human decisions, human actions.

Not a very strong God

I think the question is, what happens if I don't come to repentance?

You are benefitting from what's called "common grace" now....gifts given to us all. The Bible says "Every good and perfect gift is from above...." James 1:17. That includes oxygen and the lungs to breathe it; food and the stomach to digest it; etc. All of that a gift.

If you reject the Giver, the gifts are revoked in eternity. I do not personally believe that all unbelievers are expressly "tormented". Since the God of Judgment gives out rewards to His, I believe He will also be fair with "punishments".

But just think for a moment about having "every good and perfect gift" revoked. That's bad enough.

This is not Biblical.

Although we are both Christian (or "Christian"), I would not choose Meriweather's God either. This God is beholden to my thoughts on any given day. I am supposed to believe there's a "kingdom" here. I'm supposed to believe that God looks at my very real sins, shrugs, and says "ah well....good enough".

Meriweather believes God sent His only eternal Son to die a horrid death just so we could...waffle, choose, dissemble, be "good enough".

Who would send their kids to die for that? "Maybe if I send my kid, these people will behave a little better and pay me a scintilla of attention". Uh...???

No, the God of the Bible sent His only eternal Son to die to save TO. THE. UTTERMOST. those who would be saved. It's not a "nice story", it's not some kind of path you walk and maybe you get there. You are either covered in the blood of Jesus when God looks at you--and are thus saved--or you are not.

Many people don't like that. Many people find it hateful. But again IMO a God who is held hostage to MY choices and MY thoughts is really no god at all.

I have not devoted myself to others like a saint might but I did help an elderly woman fix her TV (she accidently pressed the 'input' button). How much is enough?

The God of the OT was no saint either. Can you say genocide?

Will I be eternally gasping for breath and be starving for eternity? Sounds like torment to me.

Not a very strong God
That's an odd point of view. God allowing people to choose their own way is not a strong God. On the other hand, a God who throws souls into a Lake of Fire is seen as mighty... Recall respect for the free will of humans is a known characteristic of God.

I'm supposed to believe that God looks at my very real sins, shrugs, and says "ah well....good enough".
Shame on you! That is not and never has been my belief. Why are you lying about me?
Meriweather believes God sent His only eternal Son to die a horrid death just so we could...waffle, choose, dissemble, be "good enough".
What is your problem! Lies, deceit, and now slander. I'll never again see you as an example of Christian love. If you knew me at all, you would know I am ALWAYS saying, "Good enough never is."

Hate me all you want, Sue, but what you have done with your last few posts is unspeakable. There is no reason for you to make up reasons that are acceptable to you for hating, just hate and be done with it.

What could God get from a human being? It's not like he needs any help with anything.
God is love. What is love without others to love? Try to imagine that emptiness. About five years back I took on two chinchillas. They can't do a thing for me. They need care and tending. I love them dearly. Think about it. Doesn't both giving and receiving love make you the best of who you already are.

I have not devoted myself to others like a saint might but I did help an elderly woman fix her TV (she accidently pressed the 'input' button). How much is enough?
With that attitude, you've already done way too much.
