The Senate voted along party lines Saturday afternoon to advance a sweeping bill to reform the tax code, tackle climate change and lower the cost of prescription drugs, taking a big step closer to giving President Biden a major victory before the November midterm elections.
The Senate voted 51 to 50 to proceed to the 755-page bill, after Vice President Kamala Harris arrived at the Capitol to cast the tie-breaking vote.
The vote puts the bill on a trajectory to pass the Senate sometime Sunday, barring an unexpected setback, such as the sudden absence of a Democratic senator.
Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) hailed the bill’s impending passage as a major achievement.
“The time has come for the Senate to begin debate on this historic piece of legislation. The Inflation Reduction Act is a groundbreaking bill for the American people, for families struggling to pay the bills, for seniors struggling to pay for medication, for kids struggling with asthma,” Schumer said on the floor moments before the vote.
“This is one of the most comprehensive and impactful bills Congress has seen in decades,” he declared promising it would reduce inflation, lower drug costs, fight climate change and close tax loopholes.

The procedural vote sets up 20 hours of debate to be divided evenly between Democrats and Republicans followed by an open-ended series of amendment votes, known as a vote-a-rama.

And i thought the free prescription drugs for the elderly back in the 2000s was supposed to make lower drug costs? I mean what can be lower than free?

Reform the tax code= raise taxes and double the size of the IRS to collect it.

Tackle Climate Change= Tax you now for billions of dollars, spend trillions and maybe knock half a degree off the temperature in a hundred years.

Lower the cost of prescription drugs= Maybe, in about three years or so, if it works out.

You notice what isn’t listed? Bringing down inflation. I wonder which of these four things voters will remember in November.

It's infuriating for that dumb fucking whore to have any kind of negative effect on the quality of my life... although it won't be much.

When the left passes a controversial bill or ruling, it's 'landmark', when conservatives do it, it's usurpation of power.

While they're at it, Congress should give the Ukraine another trillion dollars in order to lower inflation even more. Ukraine has already sold most of the armaments that we gave them and they need more. Oh, and send them and Somalia each about 5 shiploads of baby formula. The poor little babies would starve before they're old enough to be sex trafficked.

Cool another cluster f*k pork belly bill. If Democrats were firemen, they'd show up to the fire in a gasoline truck.

More billions spent borrowed from the Red Chinese on store credit that will never do jack shit for the climate nor help one person's health, just cost taxpayers yet MORE money, slow the economy further, weaken the dollar, boost inflation, accelerate recession, and make fat cat democrats even richer!

I would love to see a tax cut for me & my fellow American constituency! I would NOT like a tax cut for any appointed bureaucrats or elected officials but I would like to see a massive tax increase 0f 35% or more on all town, city, county, state, federal & borough elected/appointed officials. In all reality these appointed/elected public employees are not employees @ all but lowly servants & it's time to start treating them like lowly servants.

Ok. And what would you like to do about it?

The Fed is raising interest rates. THAT is about all that can be done
Really? How about taking away the useless regulations and restrictions on small business? Economic freedom is at an all time low.
