‘Gulf of America’ name change now official

Transition to Gulf of America will take some patience

When Elon Musk changed Twtter to X we spent years saying
“X formerly known as Twitter”

We will now have to say…….”The Gulf of America formerly known as The Gulf of Mexico”

Or we could call it the 'Gulf of X'.

That's part of the point. The Gulf is for the North America, Central America, and South America. America is actually a more realistic term to use.
Except it never touches Central or South America. It would be more appropriate to call it the Gulf of N. America, but historically it has been the Gulf of Mexico and I really don't see any need to waste the $$$$ to rename it.

Meh you loons needed to look ridiculous.

It was Trump making the Presidency, and t he United States look ridiculous. It was a positively shameful display full of ignorance and jingoism.

And obviously not aimed at the attendees at Davis (the people whose opinions and actions count in the world), but rather rantings intended to appeal to his domestic cultists.

It was a distraction and it worked. BTW, who attended Davis? Is that in CA? Or do you mean Davos---as in Switzerland with the WEF? Morons.

Davos. Apple kept changing it.

Who attended? world leaders. Captains of industry, technology leaders, scientists.

The people whose opinions and decision matters.

Distraction?

From what?

Huh?

Mt McKinley was renamed 'Denali' in 1975?

I don't remember that at all, I thought it didn't happen until Obama changed it?

The mountain had been unofficially named Mount McKinley in 1896 by a gold prospector and officially by the federal government in 1917. In 1975, the state of Alaska requested that the mountain be officially recognized as Denali, as it was still the common name used in the state and was traditional among Alaska Native peoples. This change action was repeatedly blocked by members of the congressional delegation from Ohio, McKinley's home state. While on an Alaskan visit in September 2015, Obama announced the renaming of the mountain back to the original Denali.

The proposal was met with immediate criticism from the entire US Congressional delegation from Ohio

Ahhh..The Gulf of America--I'm guessing he doesn't mean SOUTH America, now does he?

The Trump administration's Interior Department said on Friday it had officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and the Alaskan peak Denali to Mount McKinley.
U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the name changes as part of a flurry of executive actions hours after taking office on Monday, making good on a campaign promise.
"As directed by the President, the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America and North America's highest peak will once again bear the name Mount McKinley," the Interior Department said in a statement.

Alaska's towering peak had been called Mount McKinley before, in honor of former U.S. President William McKinley, but was renamed Denali - meaning 'tall' in the Koyukon Indigenous language - in 1975 at the state's request.
"These changes reaffirm the Nation's commitment to preserving the extraordinary heritage of the United States and ensuring that future generations of Americans celebrate the legacy of its heroes and historic assets," the department said.

In his inaugural address on Monday, Trump said McKinley, a Republican who was president from 1897 to 1901, "made our country very rich through tariffs and through talent - he was a natural businessman." McKinley was head of the U.S. in an expansionist era, gaining Hawaii, Guam, and Puerto Rico as territories. Hawaii later became a U.S. state.
While Trump can direct the U.S. Geological Survey to change how it denotes the Gulf of Mexico, such a name change would be unlikely to be recognized internationally.

Mexico, which like the U.S. has a long coastline circling the body of water, has said the Gulf of Mexico name is internationally recognized and has been used as a maritime navigational reference going back hundreds of years.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum earlier this month jokingly suggested North America, including the United States, be renamed "Mexican America" - an historic name used on an early map of the region.

Just a distraction.

I disagree with renaming geographical places, but if it was done to get around Biden's foolish drilling ban then I am all for it.

It didn’t have anything to do with that.
The Gulf of Mexico is not U.S territory. It’s in international waters.

Trump has no jurisdiction, nor does he have the power to name it.

He will be ignored.

But it played to the Trump losers in Fox/Rogan/X alternative reality crowd.

Gulf of the Americas seems better with the'' s''. But Gulf of Mexico has always been good to me as well. I never knew it could be changed by the President.
It's a yes and no. UN and other nations could have a say so and use something in maritime law. If you research it, it's doesn't seem to be clear cut.

So who cares what he names it? You, since I believe you live in Florida and I and probably all long the gulf will refer to it as simply the GULF like we always have.

He will be ignored.

It will be interesting watching who picks up on Trumps new name

Fox News definitely will
Will the other media call it The Gulf of America or continue to use the original name?

There is North America, Central America, South America. Many cultures and countries existed there before the United States of America ever did. Ain't no big thing about the name, but as another poster noted there are more important things to be done than naming a body of water.

Trump again displays his arrogance and ignorance, just as with his policy towards Venezuela. He has no understanding or appreciation of WHY so much of Central and South America despise the government in Washington DC. As the Native Americans noted centuries ago, the government in Washington speaks with forked tongue.

We shall see how it plays out, as to who are the losers. you fools that voted for Kamala are the losers, you lost the EC,, the popular vote, and every swing state. YOU are the losers, deal with it.

senile Joe banned drilling in the gulf of mexico, if it is no longer the gulf of mexico then his ban is meaningless. That is what this is all about, doofus.

One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

That was dumb
I think you missed the sarcasm.

The saving grace in the US cost wise, judging by American's knowledge of other countries, there are no atlases to reprint ;)

Is Trump that stupid to believe that?

Ok loser. We President now.

is Biden stupid enough to believe he could make a drilling ban stick? This will probably end up in the SC. I have stated more than once that I do not believe in renaming geographical places, but if this gets around senile joe's ban, then I am for it.

Drilling bans are dependent on who is in power at that time.
A new President is able to revoke previous bans.

Is Trump that stupid that he thinks he needs to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to get around a ban?
