‘Gulf of America’ name change now official

I guess I have no problem with the designation of Mt McKinley just for historical reasons. I have been militant minded objecting to the tearing down of so many historical markers and monuments in the name of 'wokeness'. Good and bad, our history is what it is and those monuments, markers, symbols etc. commemorate that history, both the good and the bad.

But frankly I think the Gulf of America thing is dumb but relatively harmless except for the hassle of changing the millions and millions of maps that designate it Gulf of Mexico.

It's just head games

I think it's great just because it is going to drive the leftists banana's.

An easy change with a Sharpie

Gulf of the Americas seems better with the'' s''. But Gulf of Mexico has always been good to me as well. I never knew it could be changed by the President.

It's intent
Probably. But I still think it's dumb just for the pure inconvenience and cost to change the name everywhere if for no other reason.

That in no way should be interpreted that I'm going soft on the MAGA agenda overall. I still 100% support the vision, goals and objectives even if I think something here and there along the way is dumb, unnecessary, ill advised, wrong or whatever.

None of us should expect there won't be some mistakes in all that.

As soon as I read it I knew it was Trump poking

Meh, no one has "gulf of mexico" as an address so it's really not a big deal.

Yes, but your beloved fuhrer loves this bullshit.

It gets all the jingoistic little minds pumped up. And the Orange Menace loves that.

You're a perfect example.... think hard

Cartogograpers around the world will continue to refer to the Gulf of Mexico by its proper name.

The fool in the White House does not have the power to rename a body of water the United States does not possess.

I wasn’t triggered.

But it is embarrassing to see the President of the United States make such an obvious fool of himself.

Meh you loons needed to look ridiculous.

I'm looking at the very expensive globe on a stand that was gifted to us some years ago. It very clearly specifies Gulf of Mexico. So does the complete Atlas that is on the under shelf of our coffee table in the living room.

I grew up and lived my whole life calling it the Gulf of Mexico which it has been since I think 1550. So renaming it does change the history somewhat.

I still call this one dumb but again relatively harmless in the grand scheme of things.

As a bit of a bibliophile, I can assure you that those will become quite sought after collectibles in the decades to come. Furthermore, no one needs to replace them.

I have atlases that are hundreds of years old, the names may change, but the geography remains the same.

There's bigger fish to fry rather than naming a gulf.
Just another distraction. Like renaming the seventh continent "Oceania" The general public will continue to use the name "Gulf of Mexico" I wish we could get representatives in government that got beyond second grade.
