Growing Need

Try again? US citizens are Americans. Anyone born in the US is a US citizen. American schools educating American students is as American as it gets.
Don't waste your time. You know trump supporters will never believe anything that isn't already trump/cult approved.

Many older immigrants have no interest in learning English.

NO, "many" older immigrants work 3 jobs, run around picking up and dropping off their kids who they also feed and otherwise care for, make sure their kids do their homework, and therefore don't have loads of extra time to work on their studies.

Maybe they shouldn't have come here, or maybe they shouldn't have had kids. Sacrificing yourself for your kids is a zero-sum game.

Demand for trained, expert services for non-native English speaking students is on the rise. I can't tell you how many main-stream subject area teachers have come to me over the years asking for tips, approaches, and support in working with such students in classes such as Math, History, ELA, etc. Nowadays, Most districts require SEI certification for subject-area teachers, but there's a lot more to it than just that covers.
And now, just a couple of months later, the demand is even greater.

Already just a few months into the year a significant number of new ESL students have recently registered. Starting to see some subject-area teachers feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. Others are adapting well.

If anyone reading this decided to move to, say, Germany for example, because of the wonderful culture and life experience, s/he would IMMEDIATELY begin learning German - at least conversational German to get by in stores, restaurants and in casual social interactions. And yet many (millions of) people who come here seem to feel no obligation to learn English or to assimilate into the society and culture. And Leftists defend that obstinacy as though it were just as legitimate as assimilating.

Three cheers for any immigrants who are making the effort. They deserve as much support as "we" can give them.

Parenthetically, many of my wife's aunts and uncles, who all came here in the early 50's, never learned to speak English in anything but the most primitive way.

How the hell do you know? "My experience at 7/11" means NOTHING.

You don't hear teachers actually say it anymore, but a few I've seen seem to be thinking "How am I supposed to teach someone if I don't speak their language?" like so many people used to say 20 years ago or so. On a related note, I'm actually old enough to remember teachers telling parents NOT to speak the family's heritage language at home so as not to "confuse" the child.
