I don't like the idea that a company can donate 10 million to a politician and later get a grant/loan/contract for 1 billion... I also don't like it when it's the federal Government giving that money to companies that are outside the powers given to congress.

I agree, just as it depends on your definition of liberal. I know many liberals that are more conservative than Republicans for the simple reason that they want less or no wars (the kind of wars America has done since WW2) while at the same time being very willing to cut spending. "Conservatives" usually want to cut minor spending at best while keeping military spending at all time highs... That can't possibly balance the budget, not even close.

Very few conservatives want to do away with SS,MC,MC and so on. But most conservatives are fine with ending food stamps... While none are constitutional I find it odd that "conservatives" will fully support the biggest (by far) of the social spending programs while offering to cut the smallest (by far) of the social programs that wouldn't even pt a dent in the growing deficits.

I try to stay away from "liberal" and "conservative" being used as a broad brush. I usually try and say "Liberals like you" or "Conservatives" like you.

A company cannot donate that much to a candidate....
The donation is not the problem. It's the payback.
For example, the payback to the UAW by Obama, for their undying support of his candidacy.
Any time a contributor to an individual candidate or to a PAC or party results in a "favor" from an elected office holder, IMO that should be prosecuted as a crime.
In any event, legislation that prohibits large contributors to offer donations is a violation of free speech guarantees.
