GOP grows uneasy over voters' health care premiums amid shutdown standoff

‘Anxiety is rising among congressional Republicans that their party has no plan to address a critical health care deadline this fall that will result in spiking costs for millions of Americans – the issue at the heart of the deepening government shutdown crisis.

And some of those GOP members are offering a stark warning to their own leaders: Doing nothing could cost them their full control of Congress in next November’s midterms, calling for a plan that would address expiring enhanced Obamacare tax credits to be swiftly advanced once the government eventually reopens.

“I think the reality is, if costs go up under our control, it could have an impact on us,” Rep. David Valadao, a vulnerable GOP lawmaker from California, told CNN about the political effects of the health care fight. “I get that there’s some in leadership who don’t like hearing it but there’s no denying it.” “Just watching rates go up and pointing fingers is not what we should be doing in our position,” he said.

Valadao is among dozens of rank-and-file House and Senate members who have begun drafting their own ideas about how to deal with the expiring enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which help millions of Americans afford insurance. Many of those GOP members — predominantly from battleground seats — are also directly urging their leadership and the White House to do something to make sure the tax credits keep flowing at year’s end.’

True Republican idiocy.

They wouldn’t need to come up with a plan if they’d simply agree to reauthorize Affordable Care Act subsidies, might even help them keep the House.

Republicans are incapable of sound, responsible governance.
Insurance prices have gone up every year. Especially they went up as soon as the "Affordable" Care Act was passed with no Republican votes. The $2,500 savings was a lie. Only the insurance companies benefited.

But the Dems and their media allies have done a good job of portraying the inevitible yearly raise as all the Republicans' fault. So this issue is ripe for negotiations that would go in the Democrats' favor.

All they have to do is stop filibustering the re-opening of government and those negotiations can start with a guaranteed vote on the ACA COVID supplement.

Which one are you moving to?
Mexico.

Can you believe those people RWNJ's love to hate, has a better healthcare system than the US.

Mexico provides free healthcare to its citizens and permanent residents through its public healthcare system, known as the Instituto de Salud para el Bienestar (INSABI)

But that isn't saying much, it's only going to get worse with "Dr." OZ, running the show.

Thats not a bug. Its a feature. They literally negotiated and voted to do this.

Nice try, this is on Johnson, and his constant LIES......a very trump thing.
Proven as factual.

(R) own the House, the Senate, and the POTUS.
It is up to them to negotiate....... am I wrong?
Not the Art of the Deal......FAIL on the (R), but sure, keep blaming (D).
They have made clear they are willing to negotiate, when the Govt is open.

With this shutdown, the Democrats are taking food out of a lot of needy mouths, just to pander to illegal aliens. Democrats don't care about Americans or America.

Well, the cost of it for everyone should be pooled across the entire nation, that's fer shure.
Actually the cost for the subsidy should be from cuts, like the DOGE savings, plus "claw-backs" from democrat slush funds.

That is about $420b in democrat slush funds that should be clawed-back and used to fund the ACA subsidy, call it TRUMPCAREx.

CRs are stupid but they should not be a negotiating tool. Dems are wrong on this one. Having said that, Congress could obviate the issue by doing their essential function and passing the real budget.
