A horde of lawyers too numerous to squeeze into a Chelan County courtroom will wage opening skirmishes today in a lawsuit aimed at undoing the results of the Washington governor's election.
While Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire and her Republican opponent, Dino Rossi, remain hundreds of miles away, an auditorium in Wenatchee will be the setting for preliminary arguments in the Rossi campaign's attempt to win a revote. He and the GOP are contesting Gregoire's 129-vote victory margin in a hand recount.
The case will be decided by Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges, who, for a small-town jurist, is unusually experienced at ruling on election challenges and has earned a reputation for even-handedness.
