When this particular model came out in 2011 Chrysler was planning to merge with Mercedes, so the chassis is essentially identical to the Mercedes ML, engine and electrical all Mopar, then the Fiat merge happened instead.

Chrysler merged with Mercedes in 1998, but that merger broke up in 2007. In 2009, FIAT bought Chrysler, changing its name to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. (FCA). This year, FCA bought some French company that owns the Peugeot and Citroën, and changed its name to Stellantis.

All Jeeps are made in Toledo, Ohio. Fiat is the controlling corporation.

Just because all those Mexican, Chinese, and Asian parts are all glued and stapled together here in the U.S. doesn't mean it's American.
