Alex Acosta who was appointed to numerous Congressionally approved appointments put his career on the line in 2008 because Trump (who wasn't a politician and had shown little to no interest in politics and BTW was a Democrat/Reform party guy at the time), asked him to. With the promise that at some point in the future Trump would enter politics and pay him back? And that payback was Labor Secretary? A job Acosta would have potentially been in line for under a Republican President given he has an Econ degree from Harvard, worked as an employment lawyer for years, had already served on the Labor board for GWB, as well as the civil rights division of the DOJ, running it as the Assistant DA of the Civil Rights division for a time. He potentially threw all that away letting a guy who they knew was at a minimum a pedophile and suspected with a good deal of evidence was running an underaged sex trafficking ring, on the promise that someone who was in no position at the time to pay him back politically would do so at some point in the future.
