I’m a lifelong Democrat; I make no apologies for that. I’m proud of what my party represents and what it stands for. As part of my participation in the democratic process and in support of my chosen candidate, I have led some of the biggest fund-raisers in my party’s history. Barack Obama in 2012. Hillary Clinton in 2016. Joe Biden in 2020. Last month I co-hosted the single largest fund-raiser supporting any Democratic candidate ever, for President Biden’s re-election. I say all of this only to express how much I believe in this process and how profound I think this moment is.

Harris or Newsom won't beat Trump, so who are they going to try to prop up? Instead of the 1%er of Dems which Harris had in 2020, who do they prop up?

Let's have these people who suggest that they usurp democracy and the millions who already voted and tell the world directly "this is the person who should be anointed party leader".

Will this happen every election cycle whenever a Dem is behind in the polls?

If the Dems truly believe this and "democracy is at risk (again, the irony)" They would invoke the 25th Amendment, no?

It's only because in Clooney's case, the case that he's not the right person for the job is so evident that even those who backed him find it hard to continue their support.
