Despite Omar's concerns, she and another 123 House members voted for the bill to pass on. Four other representatives did not. The bill fell flat in the Minnesota Senate.

Franson said Omar should have done more. “Ilhan hasn’t mentioned it at all. She never spoke about it on the House floor. She was in the back room watching it on the TV until it became time to vote, and she had to come out and vote.”

Omar’s support would have been particularly important because she represented the large Somali community where girls are at higher risk of being forced into FGM. And Franson argues it was in fact pressure from that community that kept her bill from moving forward.

Franson pointed to one case in 2017 in which two girls belonging to a small Indian Muslim sect known as the Dawoodi Bohra, according to court documents, who were taken to Michigan to have FGM performed, which Franson said motivated her to examine the issue more carefully.

Male circumcision? I'm all for it. Matter of fact, I'm circumcised myself, had it happen at birth, and I'm glad my mother made the call. Why? Because in high school, I had a couple of friends of mine who weren't circumcised, and on occasion we would talk, and he would tell me of the hassle of keeping his foreskin clean. And, according to doctors, if you are circumcised, you have less of a chance of contracting an STD than someone who isn't. So, removing the foreskin from a male penis is beneficial physically to the man who is circumcised.

As far as female circumcision? Totally against it. Why? There are zero benefits for the woman, and in many cases, it can cause more problems than what the parents think it solves. There are no physical reasons for female circumcision.

You know, this is gonna sound strange, but this is how I feel about the whole thing.............

Male circumcision? I'm all for it. Matter of fact, I'm circumcised myself, had it happen at birth, and I'm glad my mother made the call. Why? Because in high school, I had a couple of friends of mine who weren't circumcised, and on occasion we would talk, and he would tell me of the hassle of keeping his foreskin clean. And, according to doctors, if you are circumcised, you have less of a chance of contracting an STD than someone who isn't. So, removing the foreskin from a male penis is beneficial physically to the man who is circumcised.

As far as female circumcision? Totally against it. Why? There are zero benefits for the woman, and in many cases, it can cause more problems than what the parents think it solves. There are no physical reasons for female circumcision.

To tell you the truth, it's not something I really gave much thought to when I grew up, but when Penn and Teller had their series "Bullshit" on HBO, they did one show about circumcision and they were firmly against it, but they did show all the reasons the doctors said to do it. I researched those claims myself and found them to be true. Made me even a bigger believer in circumcision.

And....................one other advantage is that women don't freak out when they see my johnson. Some of my friends who were female said that was a deal breaker for them, because it didn't look "normal". Some of my male friends said that yeah, on occasion, when women saw their member, they would get all fidgety and nervous, because they hadn't seen one, and didn't know what to expect.
