It's nice knowing my kids will grow up in a country where they can marry the consenting adult partner of their choice regardless of gender. I am 3 weeks shy of 60.
Late 20s is when I started allowing myself to be open to speaking with gay folk. Sort of ridiculous as I look back at how it all came to be. I always knew some folk were gay but the culture I was in, not raised that way at home, was to look down on gay folk but treat them civilly.
Once I realized they were just like me and everyone else cept they fell in love and were attracted to the same sex it opened me up.
And best of all made me a better person. Lifting that prejudice off of my shoulders feels so good. And additionally, seeing the look in the family members eyes of our very large extended family that are gay and lesbian when they know that I fully accept them and love them for who they are, well that is indescribable.
And this country boy done very good ain't ever looking back. I know what is right and Granny would be proud of me.
