No historian will tell you that the South switched parties in the 1960's after the Northern Democrats and Republican pass the legislation that the nearly every single southern politician voted against. The people of the south still supported those representatives they sent to DC because the fought against non-whites getting those civil rights. So Ben is right, no Southern State flipped in the 60's. It took a generation, but the GOP now controls most of the Southern states.
