It's very expensive, but it's worth it. Hallowe'en got so pointless in the last three decades or so, on the left coast, and now that I'm back at home in the Midwest, living in a sweet, safe, quiet little town, it's such a joy seeing the kids taking over town like a swarm!

Having lived here for four years and meeting a ton of people from church, it's glorious fun watching them taking their kids and grandkids around, wearing cute and innovative costumes! They're all so engaging and polite, always saying "Happy Hallowe'en" and "Thank you"!

It's worth it for an old lady who lives alone.

Our family has always participated in Halloween and our daughter was allowed to trick or treat. However, I nor any of my siblings have ever trick or treated. Our parents compared it to begging and they were adamantly opposed.

I can see why they'd feel like that. I hope it wasn't too harsh for you and siblings to see all the kids bringing their Hallowe'en candy to school.

We were poor after my father died and candy was a rare treat, so that kind of largess was amazing for us.

LOL, naw, we got to hand out the candy and we still had a festive atmosphere. We took part in activities in the neighborhood like bobbing for apples etc. I don't feel like we missed anything.
