Legislating hate speech is a real slippery slope imo...

"Hate" being an emotion, it is totally subjective and, thus, impossible to objectively identify. "Hate crimes" and "hate speech" are terms, word forms, that can exist verbally without having genuine sense. Such symbolic prose becomes problematic when taken too seriously by weak intellects.

And yet, Google and Facebook do it to us with impunity....
They are private companies...not the government.
They aren't French either, but France put a stop to their selective targeting. We do nothing...
France (and EU) has very different laws, especially regarding free speech and the rights of private companies. How much do you want the government to interfere in TOS issues and such?

Something else too...if they sued like a publisher, which is what you guys want (and imo might not be a bad idea) then like a publisher, they become responsible for accuracy. That means their fact checking statements, and removing outright false material is going to be a lot more frequent.
