The Bible says that NOBODY can choose to follow Jesus unless God the Father permits them to do so.

Ephesians 2:8-9

One's self-will can overcome God's calling.

I believe we have free will over how we react to the situations that fate puts us in. Fate puts us in positions to have to make the decisions whether we want to or not, and we have to face the consequences of the choices we make related to those situations.
