Free Speech being attacked by Trump and it is losing the battle

Actually ABC did it
Apparently, ABC did it after Nexstar Media decided to preempt Kimmel's show in their affiliate markets and then the FCC Chair chimed in with the threat of legal action and obviously Disney (which owns ABC) signed off on it.

So, all the credit shouldn't go to ABC, it was a "team effort". :)

There is no national right to abortion.

Agreed. This is just an intellectual exercise.

The left wants the right to give up RKBA, something they hold dear. Would the left give up abortion to get it?

ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death

This action was done by Brandon Carr (Secretary of the FCC - appointed by Donald Trump).

What makes this action even worse is that Carr has been a strong proponent of Free Speech in the past, and here he goes and attacks Free Speech.

Here are Carr's comments in the past about Free Speech

In 2019 he said: "Should the government censor speech it doesn't like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the 'public interest'".

In 2023 he said: "Free speech is the counterweight—it is the check on government control. That is why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream".

In 2024 he said: “A lot of social media companies have embraced, or re-embraced, the idea of free speech online, I think Elon Musk and X had a great deal to do with that. I was pleased to see Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook join him, but clearly there’s more we can do.”

Now and after this suspension of Kimmel was done, this was Carr's comment" "Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. I hope that other broadcasters follow Nexstar's lead."

This OP is not about Kimmel himself. I never was a fan of Kimmel as I am against all extremes and Kimmel was all about Trump every show. Too much (in my opinion). Nonetheless, first was Steven Colbert and now Jimmy Kimmel and who is next?

Here is the comment from the ACLU after this event:

This OP is about Free Speech, which is a right given to us by the Constitution and one we have strongly defended throughout the lifetime of our country. Now, that Free Speech is being attacked and is losing the battle.

I think this is wrong.
The FCC didn't fire Jimmy Kimmel...stop lying.

America is not the authoritarian state you are trying to make us.

The more you avoid discussing the actual incident, the more you signal that you know your case is weak as shit.

EVERYONE sees that.

Because "shall not be infringed" is pretty clear.

How about the left trades abortion for guns?

Please find a post where I even bring up Major Questions"

You have a well known opposition to Chevron, where you wanted to give the courts the power to veto regulations they didn’t like rather than let the administration and Congress hash it out.

This comes about conveniently as the court cemented a conservative majority for the foreseeable future.

Let’s discuss the actual incident. The FCC was threatening government punishment for speech it didn’t like.

That’s pretty ******* authoritarian.

We are in a period of increasing civil unrest, with a lot of talk of civil WAR.

In this situation, a corportation that is happy to keep hatemongering and trying to stir up more violence and strife,

is a valid target of regulation.

Not anymore. Once we kicked your Vegetable Messiah to the curb Trump began to eliminate your authoritarian bullshit.

Getting rid of Chevron will force congress to write tighter legislation. Chevron didn't involve congress, it basically said the Executive could regulate itself.

Since when did any MAGA give a damn about the Constitution?
Since when did Democrats?

Don't bother. You won't answer truthfully anyway.

When the right is "originalist' regarding the Constitution, those who are not don't give a damn about the Constitution.
