Four senators sold stocks before coronavirus threat crashed market

Senator Richard Burr Warned Of Coronavirus Effects In Private Meeting - Intelligence Chairman Raised Virus Alarms Weeks Ago, Secret Recording Shows

So, Burr let the fat cats know what was coming while the rest of us were being treated like mushrooms...kept in the dark and fed bullshit.
Did Burr make any public appearances on Fox News or any other media outlet in that timeframe?

If he was communicating a different message to the public, that would be one thing.

Burr spoke to his big donors on February 27. Just two days before I started this topic: Brace Yourselves For Another Stock Market Dive On Monday

I had the same knowledge as was available to the rest of the public. So I would not go so far as to say Burr was committing "insider trading".

But if he was telling the public not to worry while telling his donors shit was about to hit the fan, then he should be recalled.

There's one thing that I can tell you about this: It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history," he said, according to a secret recording of the remarks obtained by NPR. "It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."
The 1918 influenza virus was killing young people. The SARS-2 coronavirus is killing old people. The demographic is significantly different.

I am not the one that made the comment...do try and keep up.

Except that "information" is completely inaccurate. This virus is nothing like the 1918 H1N1 virus. That virus was so devastatingly lethal that it killed 1/3 of the people infected (33% mortality rate) and had a high mortality rate for young and healthy people, including in the 20-40 age group.

It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States. Mortality was high in people younger than 5 years old, 20-40 years old, and 65 years and older. The high mortality in healthy people, including those in the 20-40 year age group, was a unique feature of this pandemic.
CDC: History of 1918 Flu Pandemic | Pandemic Influenza (Flu) | CDC

There has never been anything even close to as deadly as the 1918 H1N1 pandemic. The mortality rate and factors of this virus are similar to other coronviruses, in that the mortality rate in the US is currently around 1% and mortality risk is high in the elderly and persons with compromised immune systems.

The Spanish flu is estimated to have had a 2.5% mortality rate.

C-19 is estimated to be around 2 percent.

Since no measures were taken to contain the Spanish flu outbreak, it infected about 1/3 of the world's population. With a 2.5% mortality rate, it knocked off somewhere between 50 and 100 million people.

A 1/3 infection rate today would mean 2.5 billion infected. 2 percent mortality means 51 million dead.

Thus the current panic.

A few days ago: Lower death rate estimates for coronavirus provide glimmer of hope - STAT

In a rare piece of good news about Covid-19, a team of infectious disease experts calculates that the fatality rate in people who have symptoms of the disease caused by the new coronavirus is about 1.4%.

Reducing the mortality rate from 2 percent to 1.4 percent means 36 million deaths if 1/3 of the population was infected.

It's ranged between 1.x% and 4% depending on whether it's calculated it globally or in the U.S., and whether it's calculated from the beginning or for a specific range of time (as things change with treatment and response, etc).

My point in the prior post was simply to note that the 1918 H1N1 virus was orders of magnitude more deadly than COVID-19. Comparative to the highest mortality rate calculable for COVID-19 using global numbers from day 1 -- which is less than 4% -- the 1918 H1N1 strain had a 33% mortality rate and infected 500 million people globally.

If one third of the US was infected:

2 percent mortality would be 2,181,333 dead.

1.4 percent mortality would be 1,526,933 dead.

The 1918 pandemic had an estimated mortality rate of 2.5 percent. Not 33 percent.

It is estimated that 33 percent of the world was infected.

Infection Rate
Another similarity is how quickly both viruses seem to spread. Spanish flu infected an estimated 1/3 of the global population. And although much remains unknown about COVID-19, the disease has spread rapidly from its origin in China in late December and now can be found on every continent except Antarctica.

Mortality Rate May Be Similar for Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The death rate of Spanish influenza was vastly greater than the average seasonal flu, Dr. Taubenberger said. The case-fatality rate is estimated to have been greater than 2.5%. This means for every 100 recognized cases, on average more than two and a half people died.
