In October 2016, Benton received a $100,000 wire transfer from the unnamed Russian national, the indictment states, promising him that he would get to "meet a celebrity" at a fundraiser in Philadelphia on September 22, 2016.

Duh....the investigation in to Russian election interference was started in July 2016....

The lawyer reported the Alpha bank and Trump org communicating with each other funny business, in September 2016. The FBI investigation in to the Russians and trump campaign began months before he reported this to the Fbi.... So his reporting had nothing to do with the FBI starting their investigation.

And there was no leak saying the FBI was investigating Alpha Bank and Trump org prior to the election....
