Former Kentucky Clerk In Gay Marriage Case Must Pay Additonal $260K.

Equal protection under the law. Constitution requires marriage licenses for gay couples.
State's rights, this has nothing to do with equal protection. This is a licensing issue that is the responsibility of the state. A license to practice law does not give you the right to practice in all 50 states. This is no different.

How are they? The government has no place in marriage licenses. Thankfully we now have a Supreme Court that understands the Constitution and this disgusting government overreach can be properly corrected.
Legal marriage was designed to protect children and the culture. The guy who invented it didn’t expect that that would need to be explained.

The constitution is superior to states rights. If States decided they only wanted to issue drivers licenses to white people or men then that would also violate the equal protection clause of the 14th.

Yet they can limit who can and can't practice law or medicine? You happen to be wrong, again. No worries, the Supreme Court will get it right this time.

They can't limit who can practices medicine by sex or race you fucking moron because that again would violate the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.

The states can define marriage, in fact the Supreme Court itself said the federal government could NOT. That leaves the states. Just as the states can define the standards to practice law or medicine, they can define who can and can't marry. Look to limits on incest and other things. Get ready for some disappointment.

Why would I be disappointed by your ignorance? It's amusing to me. :dunno:

Whatever standard the States set must apply equally to all without being discriminating based on race, sex or sexual orientation otherwise it violates the 14th. If this court wishes to try and take that on good luck to you. Maybe take a beat and see what ending Roe does for you first...

States still have to abide by the constitution, which includes equal protection.

A state must not discriminate when giving licenses to practice law, for example

Does a tree have constitutional rights?
the person who loves the tree has constitutional rights. In this
situation---the tree, as far as I understand, has no rights---perhaps
the judge should appoint an attorney ad litem

That fact the state requires a license to practice law is discriminatory to begin with. The states have the right to define the limits of the licenses they issue. In many cases this is further simplified by the fact over 30 states amended their constitutions to clearly define marriage. Kennedy betrayed America without his lunatic take on this issue, none of which was based on the Constitution. It will be fixed, much to your dismay.

It says a lot about the government not being allowed to discriminate.
Actually, it doesn’t say much at all about that. It says absolutely nothing about the government issuing a license for people to get married. That would be a state issue, per 10A.
