For years Democrats have begged for higher taxes…if that’s what tariffs are then why all the resistance?

Democrats have told us that higher taxes levied on the people means more revenue in the general fund/treasury which means more free shit for the people.
If what they say is true then why aren’t they embracing and encouraging the use of tariffs?
Because it is regressive. No one wants to tax the poor and working class.

Why didn't Far Left US Presidents like Sleepy Joe, Slick Willy or B. Hussein O do anything about this?

Actually, President Trump is doing something about it, the Big Beautiful Bill proposes eliminating taxes on Social Security and Tips.

But not a single Democrat voted for the BBB.

Actually, they did. Obama let the Bush Tax giveaways expire, and Clinton raised taxes on rich people.

Then Bush and Trump came along and fucked that stuff up.

Ah, yes, but ours are more uppity and don't know their place, amiright?

You have a 1960’s view of the world.

Trump doesn't know what he is doing from one day to another. His tariffs ARE a tax that fucks over working people like me. I went to go price a new grill the other day, and the prices were outrageous thanks to Tariffs.

That is a lie. Tariffs have not (yet) affected prices.

I agree, taxes on the working class are too high, but we've been shifting the burden to the working class since Ronnie Ray-gun and his new Federalism.

Sorry, but us “rich” folks bear the vast majority of the tax burden. We don’t owe any more.

HAH!!!!! Goddammed good point!!

Nope, I have a pragmatic one.

That is a lie. Tariffs have not (yet) affected prices.

Merchants are already raising prices because they can.

Sorry, but us “rich” folks bear the vast majority of the tax burden. We don’t owe any more.

I still like the idea of harvesting the rich for Transplant organs after confiscating everything they have.

THAT would be paying their fair share.

Not very informative. It states aluminium, but not what items. It lists bananas, avocados, coffee, and roses. I'm UK and buy non of those, well once in a blue moon, coffee. I imagine some Americans are in the same boat that don't buy them. How much will tariffs add to bananas, avocados, coffee, and roses? A few cents? The sky is falling

Can you keep a weekly list of how much extra you've spent because of tariffs and post it here?
Why? Walmart is doing that for us.

I didn’t question whether you understand the difference. I questioned if people on your side of the aisle not only understand the difference but are willing to accept tax shelters; or, do they see them as a form of evasion.
We see them as a form of evasion.

We are a Capitalist Economy. What you want there are many choices around the globe where you can go and live among the masses and enjoy the prosperity of economies rooted in class envy. America is not for you.
By every criterion I care about Scandinavian social democracy works better than the American system of casino capitalism, where the odds favor the house.

1932 to 1952, where we went from being an impoverished country to being the strongest economy in the world to having a vibrant middle class.

Heck, I would call that period 1932 to 1968, because even though Ike was nominally a Republican, he had the good sense to not fuck with the stuff FDR did.

Republicans didn't start doing that crazy until Tricky Dick became president.
Things got really bad when Reagan cut the top tax rate from 70 to 28% and tripled the national debt.

You lost your argument at “the more prosperous” European Nations. Do you think if we shifted spending from this to infrastructure we could meet in the middle:

- $42 Million Johns Hopkins Research and Drive Social Change in Uganda.

-$20M for Fiscal Federalism in Nepal

-$18M for Biodiversity Conservation in Nepal

-$1.5M for Voter Confidence in Liberia

-$14M for Social Cohesion in Mali

-$2.5M for Inclusive Democracies in South Africa

-$47M for Improving Learning outcomes in Asia

-$14M for Improving Public Procurement in Serbia

-$422M for improving Political Process in Moldova

-$21M for Voter Turnout in India

-$2.3M for Strengthening Independent Voices in Cambodia

-$32M for the Prague Civil Centre

-$10M for Voluntary Circomscisions in Mozambique

-$40M to Improve the Inclusion of Sedentary Migrants

$520M for Environmental Consultation
We can eliminate all of that and still have a huge deficit because of Republican tax cuts for the rich.

You need to move to a Socialist country. Seriously, they would meet all your needs and everyone would could live in the same block houses and make the same amount of money. Stop try to ruin the greatest country in the world.(Yeah, it really is)
Communism does not prove that socialism does not work. It proves that a dictatorship is an inappropriate government for a command economy.

Democrats only wanted higher taxes for the rich.

Democrats don’t eliminate anything. You think the answer is to continue asking the high income earners and middle class to pay for waste, fraud and abuse. If Democrats practiced responsible spending, you wouldn’t have to resort to class warfare and wealth confiscation.
