Back to the Florist:

If a Florist refuses to serve a gay couple because she doesn't believe that same-sex marriage is real, she can have that belief. She cannot do the action of discrimination towards a gay couple and use her beliefs as a defense. She still discriminated against them, that's against the law.

If we allowed religious exemptions for people breaking the law, we would have chaos and no law to guide society.

This is kind of funny.

If she doesn't think gay marriage is real, then she's got no reason to object to selling the flowers.

If she thinks gay marriage is real, then she's got no reason to object to selling the flowers.

Marriage is a sacrament to Christians. If homos are going to call their sacrilegious ceremonies *marriage* then we view it as a sacrament. Since they are defiling it, we view it as an abomination, and we're not going to participate.

We do get to call it a marriage. We enter into both civil and religious marriage. Your religion doesn't get to determine civil laws or another religions beliefs.

So far as arraigning the daffodils, yes indeed, her religious beliefs are irrelevant. Her arraignments are not icons. A flower arraignment betrays no religious dogma in and of itself.

A flawed rationale. First of all, it isn't the "arraignment" of the daffodils. It's the fact she is being made to sell them to a gay couple, which violates her religious beliefs.

Let's imagine there is a florist working at her bench and all she sees are order slips and cans of flowers in a cooler. One of the orders is for center pieces for the Harrison wedding. She has no clue who the Harrison's are. She makes up fourteen center pieces and rings for the delivery man to take them to the venue.

Let's imagine that speculation is a logical fallacy. If some random person was selling those flowers with no contact with the gay couple whatsoever, perhaps, but in this case, she had been selling flowers to these two for 9 years, assuming they were heterosexuals.

This florist has her own interpretation of Scripture which she believes forbids her from associating with sinners. But she just finished fourteen center pieces for the Harrison wedding.

Fourteen? Then why is she being sued? Earth to you! What is this couple complaining about then?

You do realize, of course, when I wrote "Let's imagine there's a florist" I was using a hypothetical example, right?

Notice the part where I said your hypothesis was nothing but speculation? Speculation isn't an argument, it is a means to confuse people.

Ya mean the way science 'confuses' people? A florist's job is to make flower arraignments, not to judge her customers. If she did not know that the affair was a same sex wedding, no doubt she would perform her daily tasks of creating floral arraignments and not have her faith get in her own way. She is not making Holy icons. She is not performing a ritual or sacrament. Her flowers do not reflect her peculiar dogma. She makes floral arraignments. Nothing more.
