Florist Sued for Refusing Service to Gay Couple Pens Defiant Letter Rejecting Gov’t Settlement Offer

Nope, you, as with most liberals got it ass backwards, which is what I think you like.

She did not call the gay man a pixie or anything like that. She just voiced her sincerely held religious beliefs. Your agreeing with them has no bearing on the first amendment right. That is really what the first amendment is all about, stopping bigots like you from interfering in religious belief. I will admit though that the bigots on the left has done a good job of twisting the first amendment around to where it is unrecognizable.

You mean the First amendment written by Deists to keep Christians from dominating government or establishing state religion. THAT First Amendment? You can't have freedom of religion unless you have freedom FROM religion.

She has a "right" to believe in whatever Imaginary Friends In The Sky she wants to. But when he put out a sign that said, "Flowers for sale", then she has to sell the ******* flowers.

BTW I don't necessarily agree with her beliefs and in the way the country is heading I am thinking economics and public sentiment will change her attitude. But until then it is her RIGHT to her strongly held religious beliefs. Much like the courts have ruled Muslims can refuse cab fairs for those with dogs and alcohol.

First, i've never heard this claim. Do you have a link?

Second, drunks or dogs could present a potential danger to a cab driver and his property, so I could see that being a valid concern. If it were true which I don't think it is.

Ignorance is bliss, with the liberal media we have no wonder you don't hear of these things. Doing nothing IS allowing.

Yeah, I had forgotten about that story.

Trying to think back about the outrage from the PC Police here.

Gosh, can't come up with any examples.

.

Another example of the left finding religion is if someone protests the building of a Mosque in their community. All of a sudden the left is all for the first amendement. Seems that they are for things that are anti- more then pro. They have to know that Islam is forcing itself upon them but they don't seem to care. They have to know that it is unsubstainable a flood of low educated low skilled workers. They have to know these things yet they act as if they don't. I really have to wonder what is wrong with them. Really.

I'm getting to that point as well. They work so hard to spin and deflect for barbarians that it's reasonable to wonder about their goal. They ignore some laws and are willing to destroy other Americans over others. And trying to communicate with them on this is like trying to talk to a wild-eyed teenager on the streets of Damascus.

I do have to wonder.

.

No its not. There are plenty of butt pumpers that sell flowers.

True enough. But that isn't the point. THe point is, she has a business where she does floral arrangements for weddings, and frankly, this is a guy who has patronized her business for years. She had no problem with his gay money when he was buying flowers for funerals and mother's day...

True, she has standards like the developer who requires you to be over 55 to purchase a home

So from the story you guys quoted-

But, under the new proposal, drivers who decline to provide service would face a 30-day suspension of their license. Second offenders would have their licenses revoked.

so they've told these Muslims, despite your religion, you have to take the drunk with his "Service Dog" which is just his regular dog with a sweater that says "Service dog".

Which is reasonably fair.

Just like it's reasonably fair to require florist and bakers to service gay weddings.

Senate approves controversial religious freedom bill Fox 59

The state Senate passed a controversial religious freedom bill Tuesday that could potentially allow Indiana businesses to refuse service to newly married same-sex couples. This bill passed on with Republican support, 40-10, and now heads to the House of Representatives.

“If you were to ask the question, what is the single most important pillar of our democracy, chances are the answer to that question is going to be freedom of religion,” said State Senator Scott Schneider (R – Indianapolis) during Tuesday’s debate.

Public accommodation laws in Indiana do not cover homosexuals. None of the businesses in the state are required to serve gays so this bill is nothing more than a solution in search of a problem.

And the way you stop her is economically not by forcing your religious beliefs upon her. Boycott her, tell your neighbors, and do it in a fashion that is legal and up front. If she goes out of business then the community has spoken, if not, then they have also spoken.

But you forcing your belief on her just doesn't seem in keeping with the 1st amendment.

No, not at all. THere's a law that says you can't refuse service. Not for race. Not for religion. Not for sexual orientation.

Being as you can't do google for yourself, can you provide the text of said law?

... if I'm invited to the wedding, it is required that they register, I'm ******* horrible at buying gifts, so I think that should be a law or something.

:)

The business owner should be allowed to say "no thank you" to anyone. I'd think the gay couple wouldn't want to give them business anyway, and I'd want to know who the business owner was so that I could choose to not give them my business as well.

But no, some narcissistic control freaks choose to enforce a law (they're very selective in the laws that "matter", y'know) to make a point. They don't care if they damage the business, they don't care if they exacerbate tensions, all they want to do is intimidate and control.

The two could easily co-exist.

Ayup.

And in my view, that makes it even worse. This isn't a religious freedom issue. It's a freedom issue. We should reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

Muslim Cab Drivers Refuse to Transport Alcohol and Dogs - ABC News

This story was reported in the media, just b/c you may have missed it when this story was covered 8 years ago doesn't mean it wasn't covered. How did this case turn out for the cabbies? The cabbies were ordered that they had to transport these people regardless of their deeply held religious beliefs. Of course, that decision was hailed as a slap against "creeping sharia" by social conservatives. The story changes quite dramatically though when a Christian decides they can ignore civil law based on their faith just as the Muslim cabbies did. We hear charges of religious freedoms being violated instead. Sorry, you do not get special rights to ignore civil law, just like these Muslim cabbies wanted.

really? I'm curious exactly where these Muslims are tring to "force" themselves on me. Because, frankly, when I tell people i'm an atheist, I've never had a Muslim try to lecture me on that. Nor a Jew nor a Buddhist. But Christians, they are all over that shit trying to tell me the good news about Jesus.

Obviously, the first Amendment says you can build your Mosque or Church or Temple if you own the land.

What you can't do is say, "Hey, I'm not going to provide you with a cab ride or a floral arrangement or a wedding cake because I disapprove of your dog or your sex."

You can have a religion, your business can't.

Or she can just go into a business that doesn't require her to offend her imaginary sky pixie.

Bigot.
Yes, he is!

How many times have you seen posted anything like this about a Muslim? They are definitely scared of Muslims, for good reasons. But a grandmother making a life for herself, she is fair game.
What about all the threads about the Muslim taxi drivers who didn't, for religious reasons, want to take fares that had alcohol or pets? They can get new jobs that don't conflict with their religion too.

From the article, fascism, pure and simple:

Keep in mind that Stutzman does not refuse service to gay people. Indeed she had been selling flowers to this gay couple for nine years. She has also employed gay people in her flower shop. She had a friendship with the man suing her and cared for him personally and wished for her relationship with him to continue. She simply could not defy her conscience and lend her creative talent to help celebrate what her faith says she cannot celebrate. She had no idea that staying true to her faith would end up threatening her entire livelihood and savings.

We are witnessing a shift in our society -- a shift which inevitably leads to Christians being treated as pariahs at every level of our national life. Louie Giglio's Christian views on marriage got him removed from the President's inauguration. Brendan Eich's support for traditional marriage got him dismissed as CEO of Mozilla. Kelvin Cochran's Christian faith got him fired from his position as fire chief of Atlanta. Two bakers in Oregon had to shutter their business and are now facing bankruptcy for refusing to participate in a gay wedding. The stories are mounting. Who will be next?

So do I, guy.

I have to wonder why if you are so concerned about the "barbarians" that you aren't marching down to the recruiter right now to sign up for the armed forces. I did when I was a younger man. I put my ass where my mouth was about defending America. Now that I'm a little older, I question about whehter this is the fight we want to have. I don't mistake Israel's or Exxon's interests for America's.

But to get back on point- the homophobes have LOST the marriage question. By June, gay marriage will be the law for the whole country.

But in stead of just dealing with it, it seems like you just want to let people cling to ONE bit of bigotry you can still have.

As the bible depicts, the persecution of Christians is picking up steam and the temple will soon be built

If this isn't embedded with succession fuel, then nothing is. Interesting the modern Scarlet Letter 'G' for gay, represents victory when in actuality, we all feel sorry for their parents.

It's time for those of us raised in the Bible Belt to rise.

===================================

(CNN)If you have not been following the case of Barronelle Stutzman, you should be.

Stutzman is the Washington florist who has been sued for living out her Christian beliefs. In 2013, a long-time friend and customer came to her flower shop and asked her to provide flowers for his gay wedding. Stutzman had known this man and had done business with him for about nine years. Nevertheless, she told him that she could not participate in his wedding "because of my relationship with Jesus."

The man's partner subsequently spread the word via social media. As a result, the attorney general of Washington State sued Stutzman for violating the state's anti-discrimination law. The two men also sued her in their personal capacity and were represented by the ACLU. As a result of these lawsuits, Stutzman stands to lose her business, her home, and her personal savings. Her whole life hangs in the balance with this case.

Yesterday, a Washington State judge issued a summary judgment that went against her. Stutzman's legal team put out this statement explaining what this means:

A state judge ruled Wednesday that Washington floral artist and grandmother Barronelle Stutzman must provide full support for wedding ceremonies that are contrary to her faith.

Do you think the feds should step in?

Nope

Well then. That's the state law. If she doesn't like the law, she can move to another state.

Or the multitude of supporters can get the state law repealed. Think she'd get enough votes?
