I'd rather be shot than carved up with a knife any day. Knife wounds are particularly nasty. They bleed more than most gunshots and are more prone to infections.

You never want anyone with a knife within 21 feet (7 yards) of you, either. An assailant armed with a knife can cover 21 feet in about 1 and a half seconds. Once he's on you with the knife, it's too late to stop him.
