Florida shows real genius, gonna put kids to work!

The answer, according to Florida lawmakers, is the state’s schoolchildren, who as young as 14 could soon be allowed to work overnight shifts without a break – even on school nights. :auiqs.jpg:

Another red state moves towards third world status.

Is this just desperation or do they really think it's a good idea?

Or is it just another case of the cruelty being the point?

Beneath the smugness of Ron DeSantis, at Florida leading the nation in immigration enforcement lies something of a conundrum: how to fill the essential jobs of the scores of immigrant workers targeted for deportation.

There's already a long thread on this.

Well, I can now see why you didn't see the other thread, after searching I couldn't find the damn thing. Anyway there are my kids out working in the fields. Builds integrity.

Bullshit.

For one, FEDERAL LAWS would not allow any employee under 16 to work more than 6 hours a day.
Federal Law also grants employees special working permits as young as 14, if their state also allows it.

I applaud the lawmakers, for once, giving choices to AMERICAN KIDS........to have jobs, learn a trade, and get away from the ******* braindrain of sitting in front of a ******* video game all day or in front of the boobtoob!!!!

Parents are the ultimate law though. They will have to authorize any kid under 16 to hold a job.

And I'm certain if you ask a kid if they'd rather have a job and make some of their own money, or sit rotting away in their room playing mindless games, most of them will pick a job.

This IS making American kids GREAT again...........giving them OPTIONS for LIFE.

Both my kids worked in my restaurant business at 10 and 13. I also started working at 12 and still working at 77.

juveniles in detention will not have a choice... neither will people living below the poverty line after food stamps are cut.
Be sure to let us know when that happens, and why would we NOT put juvies to work? They should not be idle all day; that's one of the things that got them in trouble in the first place. They should be working now.

If my family was below the poverty line, I'd for sure be getting my teenagers out working so they can escape to a better life. Why would I not?

Fl has an UE rate of 3.6 percent, they don’t really have a void

This law simply gets govt out of the way of young people that would like to earn and contribute to society
Exactly. Done correctly, they can graduate from high school with a savings account, work history and a bright future of independence.

That is the Senate version of the bill, that work for you? You see them flippin lines? The mark throughs? OMG! "Allowing" school children to work all night, on a school night? More than eight hours a day, on a school day? More than thirty hours a week, while attending school? This is Dark Ages shit, I quit reading after the second page because I was getting fawking SICK.

Kids after school should be studying, not developing "fruit picker" skills.
Who here wants to lay odds that most kids are not studying after school?

And this of course ignores the reality that no one is going to force teenagers to get a job, though most of them would benefit greatly from working one.

But not many parents will let their kids work that long. I imagine there are some abusive parents that would though.

And??? I'm not saying the children can't work, I'm not seeing where 14 year olds can work all night without a break, or even if they can work all night.

Yes, that's the point. They are removing protections.

I'm actually encouraged that you get it.

Nonsense. People can walk and chew gum at the same time, previous generations did it quite well. I, for just one example worked summer jobs as a teenager, kept up with my studies and earned a Computer Science degree. It really can be done. Why do you think 16 to 18-year-old teenagers are incapable of doing it?

Let's face reality, very large numbers of teenagers are not studying after school. They might as well do something that will benefit them in life.

summer jobs was not what i was talking about. this is overnight - during the school year - during the school week.

A. tRumplings are regularly ignoring federal laws at this point.

B. you know what kids want? I'm sure the Victorian robber-barons thought the dame thing.

I think that is hype. Many worked after school til midnight back in the day.

Seniors with enough credits could do half day school. Half work.

Many trying to save money for college.

lol ... back in the day - kids were healthier too.

The title and the article is misleading. The bill is geared towards 16-17 year olds. The bill itself reads:

Minors 15 years of age or younger may not be
32 employed, permitted, or suffered to work for more than 4 hours
33 continuously without an interval of at least 30 minutes for a
34 meal period; and for the purposes of this law, a period of less
35 than 30 minutes is not deemed to interrupt a continuous period
36 of work.

The article refers to a law that is already in place that exempts minors who are home schooled - so that's where they get "14 year olds could be working overnight shifts in Florida".

To put it in perspective, only 4.6% of students in Florida are home schooled. Meaning 95%+ of 14 - 15 year olds in Florida will not be allowed to work long, overnight shifts.

And??? I'm not saying the children can't work, I'm not seeing where 14 year olds can work all night without a break, or even if they can work all night.
They are eliminating the provisions of current law that prevent that from happening. Federal law is an appropriate response, but it is laughable that the federal government would even attempt an enforcement measure against a company for child labor violations, let alone have the manpower to even uncover a violation. This is really about a form of involuntary servitude dealing with unaccompanied minors.
