First news story on TV you remember as a Kid?

Aug. 4, 1964 | Missing Civil Rights Workers Found Dead in Mississippi I was 6 years old I do remember these types of news stories and stories about The Space Race, watching the rockets blast off live and on T.V. as that splashed down.

The day President Reagan was shot. I was six and a half years old.

The farthest back that I can remember is the 1988 presidential election being between George H. Bush and Michael Dukakis. I was six years old and in the first grade then.

Yep. I was 4 years, 8 months. It's a vague memory, but it's there.

Similar age and my first memory of Television.
Then Watergate.
I didn't get to watch TV much during that.

Probably wasted by a nutcase but if there is any justice in the universe then it was the Cubans that he betrayed at the Bay of Pigs that did it.

For me it was Pres. Kennedy's assassination.
I didn't want to go to school that day, so I told my mother I felt sick and she let me stay home. I fully expected to kick back and watch kid shows on TV.
But suddenly, every channel was about Kennedy being shot and the events of that tragic day.
A little later I could hear the sounds of all my friends playing outside. The principle had closed the school and sent all the kids home.
In my house there was a rule.
If you stayed home and missed school, you weren't allowed to go out side and play for the whole day.
My plan had backfired big time. ...

I never watched the news as a kid. i only started watching the news for the past ten years or so. i'm 45 years old.
