The only ones NOW who catch COVID as businesses open up are those that are not concerned about catching COVID and go out to those businesses.
If I go to a bar, a store, a restaurant or a supermarket, I have nothing to do with the individual who CLAIMS to have done the responsible thing by going nowhere and catching COVID anyway.
If I open a bar, the only ones that may catch COVID at my bar are those that choose to go there.

A death does not matter when trying to prevent that death it would cause more harm than the death.

The problem is that locks downs do not prevent any deaths at all, but instead increase the total eventually, by slowing down the natural end of the epidemic through herd immunity, and making it last far longer than it normally would, which results in much wider spread and deeper death toll.

With epidemics, speed is everything.
Whatever you do, it has to end the epidemic as quickly as possible.
Lock downs to "flatten the curve" are the opposite and extremely harmful.

The point is, we can shut down the entire country......that is easy. but not practical.

So the solution? DO what my mom does. She sits at home, has her needs met by hand delivery. She wears gloves and a mask when she gets her food. She sanitizes every item that comes into her home by delivery while wearing her mask and gloves. She avoids going out, she has not seen a restaurant, a bar or a store in months. And that is her choice. Not much of a quality of life, but I respect her choice.

We can all make that choice. It works and it works well.

But not all of us want to live that way.

The other way around.
The lock down saves not a single life, but only creates a safer illusion by stretching out infections.
The reality is the lock down ensures far greater infection and death eventually, so sentences your mom to death.
The only way to save her is to end the epidemic as quickly as possible.

The best way to do that is by accelerating herd immunity by deliberately infecting the young who are at almost no risk. That is the only way to save anyone.
