Americans below the poverty line have larger homes, are less crowded, are more likely to own personal vehicles, have higher disposing income and more access to consumer goods than most of the world, including Western Europe. Far, far better than Eastern Europe. The bottom line is that being below the poverty line in the US doesn’t mean you are starving. The standard of living in the US for those above the poverty line gets exponentially better than it does for those in more Socialists style countries.

Poor people live in air-conditioned subsidized apartments or townhouses, watch a big-screen color TV, have iPads for EACH CHILD, eat out at fast food restaurants, and hundreds and hundreds of dollars of free food every month.

Poor people in prior generations lived in sweltering 4th-story tenements, listened to a tiny radio, were lucky if they got watered down soup and a chicken wing for dinner, and certainly never ate out.

Work on reading comprehension. He did. The check arrived the day after his funeral. He had already lost everything in the months between being shut down and getting any help. I know eight people DEAD from the shutdown, all but one due to complete and utter financial ruin.
