Excelent Breaking News: Senate Passes Bill Approving Keystone Pipeline (Obama Pissed)

then it is time to make a few more refineries

which = more jobs

Again, that would be up to Big Oil. That's who builds refineries. They haven't added any in something like four decades. And if you think the current market needs more supply, have a second career in mind because you won't be in business long.

the leftists act like keystone is the only oil pipeline in the frikkin west
I act like it's a totally misrepresented political smokescreen that hides what this is at it's heart: Big Oil vs. local landowners, environmentalists and state politicians. Damned if you property rights big government hating assholes aren't fighting on the side of big government and imminent domain seizure of private land. How fucked up is that?

Well aren't all the anti Keystone people just a tad late to the party?

Where was everyone in the past? Where was everyone just a couple of years ago when the Alberta Clipper and Southern Lights was approved by the US government? Or for all the other legs of the Keystone that is now complete?

Or for all of these pipelines? Why only the XL?

Could it be that a major donor called Warren Buffet has been making a killing with his rail lines carrying the crude to refineries because of the block on the XL by Democrats?

Could it be that Democrats received millions in donations from Steyer and stand in line to get more in 2016 by trying to block the Keystone?

Could it be that the enviro whackos receive heavy funding from the likes of the Ford Foundation? By the way there's an investigation into US foundations like Tides helping pay for stunts like Neil Young on stage with a rent a chief from the Athabasca region during an anti Keystone concert.

There's big money in this for the *cough* concerned environmental groups.

Where were they for all of these? No money I guess for Democrats or enviro whackos.

Shove your conspiracy theories, some of the locals do not want this thing crossing their property and have it tied up in court. Republicans want to use the power of the federal government to force them to grant an easement because the Big Oil lobbyists have been hammering them relentlessly. That's all there is to it.
The locals are only stalling so they can be offered more money for the right of way to cross their property. I've seen this done time after time in the oilfield..
Perhaps, do you think they should be forced to sell at the oil company's price by the government?
Depends on the property layout the pipeline will cross.

Refineries are already maxed. You can't just pour more into the hopper.
Try again...

Stop with the "Canada is going to ship its oil from the Gulf to China" idiotic bullshit.

We have this big mother trucking blue thing on our west coast called the Pacific ocean. Sheesh. Didn't you take geography?

And Keystone which is just a freaking pipeline has no say in what your refineries will do with their finished product.

It's just a pipeline.

Oh no. These aren't conspiracy theories. Buffet's rail way has made a killing. Steyer put in 80 million in the mid terms and has put more into groups lobbying to block the Keystone. Hell's bells throw in the Ford Foundation. They've been funnelling money into anti Keystone activities as well.

All of this is on record. Revenue Canada (our version of the IRS) is investigating the links between all these anti Keystone supporters and so called "charitable" organizations up here.

Just facts. I can back up all my claims. How much do you want because I'm loaded for bear?

Here's Buffet for example. Bloomberg news. Major Democrat donor.

Buffett’s Burlington Northern Among Pipeline Winners

Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC is among U.S. and Canadian railroads that stand to benefit from the Obama administration’s decision to reject TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline permit.

With modest expansion, railroads can handle all new oil produced in western Canada through 2030, according to an analysis of the Keystone proposal by the U.S. State Department.

“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Woolley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., said in an interview. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul.”

So this is your theory? If Obama were in fact engaging in cronyism by not allowing it to be built then what are all those Big Oil donors and their pet Republicans doing?

Fail post. You people are playing dodgeball to the hilt on this. Just say that refusing to cave-in to Big Oil is un-American and probably communist and go watch TV.

No, he's for it because a black president does not want it. You should pay better attention to who you're talking too. Political race hustling aside, some people really are racists.

Why not approve the pipeline?
Why approve the pipeline? All the arguments for it are certifiable bullshit. Republicans made this into a national political issue to speed up the stalled approval process and are getting political opposition they never counted on. If they had just let the legal process proceed and the oil company had just dealt patiently and fairly with the locals the thing would probably be getting built right now.

The Keystone Pipeline is complete. XL is only the northern expansion which would pick up crude from Montana and North Dakota.

And the stalling all these years by this President and his Democrat minions has been a dog and pony show.

While the rest of the Keystone was being built so was Enbridge's Alberta Clipper and Southern Lights.

Not a freaking peep from anyone. It's all been bullshit.

Now let's go to my claim about Steyer. Forbes has him as being the largest donor at $74 Million to anti Keystone and anti oil sands Democrats. I'm being lazy because somewhere out there is a piece that had him up to 80 million.

Nonetheless he was the largest donor. And will pour millions to anti Keystone and anti oil sands Dems in 2016.

He's a freaking climate change whack job who made his billions off of fossil fuels. :) But he's found a new religion.

You’ve given more than any other donor this election. Why invest that money in electoral politics rather than advocacy or philanthropy?

Climate change impacts us all, and we must each make personal decisions about how we live, spend and work to preserve our planet. But beyond these private decisions, one thing has become abundantly clear: the time to act politically to avert climate disaster has arrived. As a nation, we must chart a different course, one that preserves our prosperity and empowers American businesses to create jobs while building the clean energy future our kids deserve.

Well Democrats are caving to "big enviro wackos".

Bottom line is the Keystone is only a freaking pipeline to transport crude from Canada and from your domestic producers.

Nothing more. This is all bullshit.

I must say when the left wing whackos started trotting out the talking point that "construction jobs are only temporary jobs so it's not worth building the pipeline" my head started spinning faster than Linda Blair's in the Exorcist.

It's still the wildest one yet and they've put out a lot of wild ones.

we'll see how much the price of oil drops after Keystone is complete, and unemployment does whatever it does whenever it does ... there better be a big increase in jobs or decline in unemployment ... either way.

The southern part is done. How big of an employment bump did you see from that? None. Expect about the same from the northern half.

The Keystone is complete and has been running full boar from Alberta to the Gulf for over a year now. Picking up domestic production from the Cushing terminal as well.

XL is simply a northern extension of an already existing pipeline.

Here's the thank yous from the men and women who worked on the southern leg a couple of years ago from Cushing to the Gulf.

4,844 thank yous

TransCanada is recognizing the thousands of men and women who have helped build the Gulf Coast Pipeline Project, an oil pipeline designed to deliver American and Canadian crude oil to Texas refineries. The workers who helped build this project are in addition to the thousands who constructed the initial Keystone Pipeline system, and we remain hopeful that we will have the opportunity to employ thousands more on the final leg of the Keystone system – Keystone XL.

“Over the past 15 months, 4,844 workers in America have given their best efforts to building a critical, modern piece of American energy infrastructure from Cushing, Oklahoma to Nederland, Texas, and we want to thank each and every one of them for their efforts,” said Russ Girling, TransCanada’s president and chief executive officer.

“Their dedication to working safely, building high-quality energy infrastructure and taking pride in their work has helped bring this project closer to reality.”

The original Keystone Pipeline, which has been in operation since 2010 and safely delivered almost 490 million barrels of oil, required 8,969 people to build the pipeline and its related facilities.

Manufacturing of the pipe, pump stations, specialized equipment and advanced technology for the Gulf Coast and Keystone XL Pipeline projects also support about 7,000 positions.

4 844 thank you s Keystone XL Pipeline
Those 4844 people all lost their jobs after just a couple of months, didn't they?

That is total bullshit. If they want a pipeline to Montana or North Dakota, to pick up oil, then build it. That wouldn't need any approval to cross national borders, and would transport only oil.......not the diluted bitumen that is in Canada. You don't have any idea what you are talking about, do you?

yeah the leftists killed another refinery by elk point

"Elk Point"?
Link?

Meanwhile here's one:
>> Myth 1: Oil refineries are not being built in the U.S. because environmental regulations, particularly the Clean Air Act, are so bureaucratic and burdensome that refiners cannot get permits.

Fact: Environmental regulations are not preventing new refineries from being built in the U.S. From 1975 to 2000, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received only one permit request for a new refinery. And in March, EPA approved Arizona Clean Fuels’ application for an air permit for a proposed refinery in Arizona. In addition, oil companies are regularly applying for – and receiving – permits to modify and expand their existing refineries.[1]

Again -- I'll say this over and over until it sinks in: "We" don't drill for oil, "we" don't build refineries and "we" don't decide where "our" product goes to. Big Oil does that. And Big Oil, as a profit-centred enterprise, works for the interests of its shareholders --- not the flag of whatever country it's based in or operates in.

Unless you want to nationalize the oil business, that's how it works.

as usual you are filled with libtard nonsense

I'm not personally for the Keystone pipeline because it doesn't benefit us first. It benefits Canada and China even more. The Canadians know that many Canadians would be the ones working on the pipeline and probably not that many Americans other than for temporary/seasonal work.

But if I were President, I would pass it if the Republican Congress gave me tens of billions of dollars in savings by closing many tax loopholes that favor the 1%, or if they gave me immigration reform, or the funds to finally close Gitmo, or free college tuition for 2 years for students who achieve real good grades.

Give me pieces of my agenda and I'll give you Keystone. And when the pipeline leaks, deep-red states will go blue when they realize how screwed over they got for having the pipeline near their water supplies.

What the Senate just did is right for America and for Americans looking to work making money building it.

EDIT: Damn smartphone......should be 'Excellent' in title.

Senate approves Keystone pipeline bill in face of White House veto threat Fox News

Good to see repubs working on something we don't need.

Yabbut that's not what's important -- what's important is that Big Oil needs it. Or would need it if shrinking oil prices didn't make it cost-ineffective anyway.

Big oil needs it? America needs it. You don't produce enough on your own.

Crude still has to get to market no matter what the price per barrel is right now.

XL is just the northern extension of the Keystone which by the way was completed last year and has been shipping crude to the midwest and to the Gulf for a year now.

It's just a fucking pipeline.

And a heads up. Oil sands crude is produced at $63.

Canada is going to produce crude at $63/barrel and sell it at $50 in the open market?

lol
