Every single day in America, an armed citizen prevents a violent crime.

The “Good Guy with a Gun” Myth

The research is clear: owning a gun does not make you or the people around you safer.

Despite what the gun lobby wants you to believe, the truth is that self-defensive gun use is rare, and that guns are many times more likely to be used for suicide or homicide than they are for self defense. In 2018, for every justifiable homicide with a gun, there were 34 gun homicides, 82 gun suicides, and two unintentional gun deaths.
Once again we see the disingenuous assumption that a defensive use of a gun must result in the death of the attacker. A gun need not be fired to be used to stop an attack or a crime. No criminal has to be shot dead when a gun is used to stop an attack or a crime.

And Suicide is a choice that every person has the absolute right to make.

I wonder if the parents continue to think that the only way to protect themselves was with a gun after their kid takes their own life either by their own hand or by accident. Just a complete tragedy.
Accidental drownings increase when more people install swimming pools so this argument is specious.

Every single day in America, some idiot..

"Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death for Americans aged 1-44 years old."
"Women in the U.S. are 28 times more likely to be killed by guns than women in other high-income countries."
"Children in the United States are at far greater risk of unintentional gun death than children in other developed countries."
"Firearms recently became the number one cause of death for children in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle deaths and those caused by other injuries."
"Americans also kill each other for a lot of extremely petty, dumb reasons."

Don't care? Don't believe it? Don't Google it. Don't shoot your friend or your foot.
Yeah that number one death cause for children included 18 and 19 year old ADULTS

Do you know the actual number of accidental gun deaths as compared to the actual number of legal gun uses annually?

an average of 492 people per year die of accidental gunshot.

There are literally tens of millions of instances of legal gun uses annually.

Actually, it's analagous.
and meaningless.

might as well say car accidents increase as the number of cars increases.

or water is wet.

Whenever people are involved accidents will happen that is a fact and a natural law like gravity

How many people would drown in a swimming pool if there were none?

What does the UK have to do with the US? Nothing.
These people love to compare the UK to the US but they conveniently ignore the fact that you can be arrested for owning the "wrong" books in the UK, that you have no real freedom of speech in the UK, that just about every pocket knife Americans own are illegal in the UK and that if you kill or assault a person invading your home you are more likely to get arrested than the actual criminal.

They also ignore the fact that it's an island with a population less than our two largest (border) states.

Name of one of this books?

that you have no real freedom of speech in the UK,

Do you like to say they closed the speaker's corner in the Hyde Park?

that just about every pocket knife Americans own are illegal in the UK

And what say your flight attendants to your "pocket knifes"?

and that if you kill or assault a person invading your home you are more likely to get arrested than the actual criminal.

I remember in this context an US-American who murdered some years ago a German exchange student because he had entered his garage. I guess this murderer is still in prison in the USA.
