Entire fire company shuttered because they wouldn't address member's Proud Boys connection

Wow..this is going too far..IMO...had he actually committed a crime..or was rank with his racism..maybe--but just for association..is wrong.

"A Pennsylvania fire company was shuttered by town officials Wednesday after officials at the company refused to address that one of their volunteer firefighters was affiliated with the extremist group the Proud Boys.
Officials in Haverford Township, in Delaware County, were informed on Aug. 12 that a volunteer with the Bon Air Fire Company was affiliated with "an organization described as an extremist group," the township's manager David Burman wrote in a statement released Thursday.
The township immediately launched an investigation into the allegations, which included an interview with the volunteer, who admitted he was involved with the Proud Boys, Burman said. The volunteer revealed he had attended social gatherings hosted by the group and had passed two of four of the group's initiation steps "which includes hazing."
Burman's statement quoted the group's "self-proclaimed basic tenet," posted on their website that they are "Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world." The proclamation belongs to the Proud Boys, who "are known for anti-Muslim and misogynistic rhetoric," according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which designates them as a hate group. Women and transgender men are not allowed in the group.
While the volunteer "indicated that he had attempted to distance himself from the group in recent months" Burman and a police official met with Bon Air Fire Company officials on Aug. 14 to address "the seriousness of this matter and urged the fire company to address it."
Burman said he was informed the next day that the volunteer had offered his resignation, but the Bon Air Fire Company chief refused to accept it. A week later, Burman said he received an email that said the fire company's board had "found no basis for terminating the volunteer's membership."
"The email included no indication that the fire company would take any action whatsoever," Burman's statement said. "The Bon Air Fire Company's failure to address this matter conflicts with the public policy of Haverford Township, which includes ensuring that all persons are treated fairly and equally, and that all persons enjoy the full benefits of citizenship.
As of Thursday night, the Bon Air Fire Company was "relieved of duty indefinitely," Burman announced.
Four other area fire companies will service the residents of Bon Air. The nearest company is within half a mile from Bon Air's station, and the other three are within two and a half miles.
A statement from the Bon Air Fire Company said the township stripped the station of its equipment and trucks.
The statement said the company had investigated the volunteer's involvement with the "outside organization" and found he had " limited interactions" with the group that he ultimately decided not to join.
"He never attended any rallies or protests and he disassociated himself from the group more than one year ago," the statement said.
The volunteer was not identified in the statements from the company or the township.
The six-year volunteer veteran, who was recently honored by Bon Air Fire Company "has always acted as a caring person dedicated to serving his community" and "in his actions as a firefighter, the volunteer has not acted in any way which suggests his behavior would be influenced by this organization," the statement said. "For these reasons, the Fire Company decided not to terminate the services of the volunteer."
The statement, authored by two attorneys, lamented the closure of the station, and said the township was depriving the community of 37 firefighters and three firetrucks during emergencies. About 800 of Haverford Township's fewer than 50,000 residents live in Bon Air.
The statement from the fire company urged residents to "please let their commissioners know that the Township is wrong to close the Bon Air Fire Company.""
Thanks to your vigilance and that of other citizens, this community may rethink its decision to terminate the Bon Air Fire company that so faithfully has served them, including the gentleman of controversy who immediately after his visit decided not to join any group of this nature. I think they were grossly unfair, considering there was nothing controversial about deciding against joining the group. If I were a citizen in this township, I'd be miserable over such a rash and grossly unfair decision made by elected officials.

There was nothing racist about his actions.
At the least they are self admitted Western supremacists. Therefore members or sympathisers will consider non westerners to be inferior. A council can't have the appearance of members of its service organisations discriminating among their clients.

From my understanding of what I read he made multiple visits as well as socialising with them. Not to mention passing two rites of initiation. I don't think that's 'visit'.

The man being criticized should be receiving a commendation from his detractors for not falling for a group they disapproved of. He elected instead, to focus on his job obligations, not the extremist group he didn't know much about until he attended a meeting and declined from joining as a consequence of what he learned about their activities. Groupthink can decimate political decision-making, and this controversy should never have occurred. The people in power screwed up. They ought to have realized the man saw for himself the group had nothing to offer him or his community on a long-term basis. To make a long story short, he took their side before they landed on him like ugly on an ape. What I wonder is why did they use a quire resolved year-old item to humiliate a wonderful group of men serving them loyally.

He said that the township went too far. That was no understatement, imho.

If I were a citizen in this township, I'd be miserable over such a rash and grossly unfair decision made by elected officials.
If I were a senior member of the fire company I'd be reflecting on the adage that no one is indispensable and readjusting my attitude.
The man decided all by himself not to join the club when he found out their goals were less than his community's idea of fair. So in the long haul, the man dissociated himself from alleged rabble-rousing that was not appreciated by his or other communities in the area. Yet the town council wasn't listening to reason and took a year to land on his entire company like ugly on an ape over an Amendment 1 issue. The man decided against joining. The town council went a little too far with their demands, which were ultimately respected by the man they decided to destroy from the get-go. Character assassination for that was over the top, particularly in light of his final decision that he didn't want to be a member of the organization he visited. To their credit, the Proud Boys protest but do not fight. Their actions are made following prayer and the decision to peacefully protest the terrorist group that Antifa is.

Here's an example of a man of peace being falsely accused, over and over, by a leftist reporter determined to create a false narrative and paint a man of quiet conscience and peace as a hate advocate:

There might be a violation of the 1st Amendment. What if this was a member of Antifa? The government cannot allow the right to associate to be infringed because a private advocacy group declares another private advocacy group as a hate group. I believe we are walking a line that could take more of our freedoms away. I don’t like the Proud Boys and believe they and Antifa are hate groups, however SPLC is a far left wing group that while not violent, are a hate group and label other groups according to their SPLC political beliefs.

The guy offered to resign, in didn’t join and was distancing himself. He did not negatively impact his job performance with the fire department and the fire department after investigating found him not violating any policies. They backed his character even down to the fire department being disbanded.

Decisions based on fear, hate and bigotry often backfire.

Wrong.

They might well be western supremacists but that is not an idea that other people are inferior it is the idea that other civilizations and cultures are inferior.

Therefore since they exist within western civilization there is no way for them to discriminate. And they have no clients.

Your entire rationale is a massive fail.

Making shitty and demeaning comments is part of being "protective of women"? These guys appear to be unable to maintain an adult and equal relationship with an adult woman. The only women they want are domestic servants they can bed. They make no secret of supporting male dominance at the expense of women. They are a violent and trashy bunch who ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Smart women do not bed with men they are not married to, Lysis. The proper role of women is in the Bible, and practicing that has never failed me. Not even once.

Why would "smart women" not bed men other than their husbands if they wish to? What if the woman is not a fundie? You apparently are one of those penis-worshiping cult people. Do society a favor and don't groom your daughters.
3,000 abortions a day just in the USA are the result of your attitude about sex. Death and misery are the consequences of your liberal God Hating idiotology
LOL....just a bit over the top, eh? One can engage in adultery and use contraception, after all.
It only takes one mistake to expose oneself to a venereal disease. A person who is committed to her husband would be true to him alone, would not engage in activities that would expose him to disease nor a lifetime of raising someone else's son or daughter. That's just my opinion, not a game changer for someone who disagrees with my ideals. I just think it's kinder to love, support, and keep one's marriage vows.
I thought that we were talking about people who have not taken marriage vows, not someone, male or female, who violates their vows.

If the notion of sexual morality had been recognized over the centuries, I might just start agreeing with you. However, it has not. Men have been known through the ages not to recognize it personally. A man who recognizes it would keep himself a virgin before marrying a woman who was a virgin, as seen to it by his religious leader, and both would remain sexually faithful to each other, so that neither of them would bring disease to the marriage bed. I don't understand your emphasis on women and not both sexes together.

The Civil War generals worried about VD in their ranks. One reason for the spread of HIV in India was male long-haul truckers, who brought this horrible disease home to their wives.

View the Strictly Kosher series on Youtube, about the Orthodox Jewish community in Manchester, England, which is wonderful, and more videos will appear to watch as to the customs of the Ultra Orthodox Jewish sects in Israel. Matchmakers trying to pair men and women off after having them complete questionnaires as to what they are seeking in a spouse interviewing them, and arranging meetings in halls with "conversation pits" in full view of everyone there. Then, if all goes well, the couple stay apart to fast and pray, and they break their fast only after the wedding ceremony has taken place, when they are escorted to a private room where food has been laid out for their first meal together. It's only after they come out does the party start.

My long-winded point is that, for "sexual morality" in any form to work, both men and women must be aware of, and committed to its significance and to their appreciation of and respect for their partners. When my father's wedding ring was returned to me by the funeral director, I went right back and put it on his finger. He earned it.

I wouldn't call barefoot in kitchen and pregnant a sign of respect.

See one difference here, is that what I said, to base my position on, is actually TRUE.

Your position is based on made up shit.

The second difference is that my goal is that people be allowed to live their lives, with the freedom to associate and speak.

YOur goal is that people live in conformity, without the right to freedom of speech or assembly, because if they anger the liberal assholes, like you, their lives will be destroyed by either government power, or mob actions.

I am a good person, wishing well to my fellow man, respecting their rights.

You are a vile and evil want a be tyrant, restrained from oppressing your fellow man, only by the limits of your own power.

What is so wrong with you, that you get off on ruining the lives of people who have never done you any harm, you craven little worm?

Even to the point of SHUTTING DOWN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OVER YOUR MEANINGLESS LIES?
You are defending a group that exists to take "Mob action." They are mob. You should not defend them.

I guess you better check is your Kid joins the 4 H club, some Vegan might hold a grudge on the group.
