Wow..this is going too far..IMO...had he actually committed a crime..or was rank with his racism..maybe--but just for association..is wrong.

"A Pennsylvania fire company was shuttered by town officials Wednesday after officials at the company refused to address that one of their volunteer firefighters was affiliated with the extremist group the Proud Boys.
Officials in Haverford Township, in Delaware County, were informed on Aug. 12 that a volunteer with the Bon Air Fire Company was affiliated with "an organization described as an extremist group," the township's manager David Burman wrote in a statement released Thursday.
The township immediately launched an investigation into the allegations, which included an interview with the volunteer, who admitted he was involved with the Proud Boys, Burman said. The volunteer revealed he had attended social gatherings hosted by the group and had passed two of four of the group's initiation steps "which includes hazing."
Burman's statement quoted the group's "self-proclaimed basic tenet," posted on their website that they are "Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world." The proclamation belongs to the Proud Boys, who "are known for anti-Muslim and misogynistic rhetoric," according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which designates them as a hate group. Women and transgender men are not allowed in the group.
While the volunteer "indicated that he had attempted to distance himself from the group in recent months" Burman and a police official met with Bon Air Fire Company officials on Aug. 14 to address "the seriousness of this matter and urged the fire company to address it."
Burman said he was informed the next day that the volunteer had offered his resignation, but the Bon Air Fire Company chief refused to accept it. A week later, Burman said he received an email that said the fire company's board had "found no basis for terminating the volunteer's membership."
"The email included no indication that the fire company would take any action whatsoever," Burman's statement said. "The Bon Air Fire Company's failure to address this matter conflicts with the public policy of Haverford Township, which includes ensuring that all persons are treated fairly and equally, and that all persons enjoy the full benefits of citizenship.
As of Thursday night, the Bon Air Fire Company was "relieved of duty indefinitely," Burman announced.
Four other area fire companies will service the residents of Bon Air. The nearest company is within half a mile from Bon Air's station, and the other three are within two and a half miles.
A statement from the Bon Air Fire Company said the township stripped the station of its equipment and trucks.
The statement said the company had investigated the volunteer's involvement with the "outside organization" and found he had " limited interactions" with the group that he ultimately decided not to join.
"He never attended any rallies or protests and he disassociated himself from the group more than one year ago," the statement said.
The volunteer was not identified in the statements from the company or the township.
The six-year volunteer veteran, who was recently honored by Bon Air Fire Company "has always acted as a caring person dedicated to serving his community" and "in his actions as a firefighter, the volunteer has not acted in any way which suggests his behavior would be influenced by this organization," the statement said. "For these reasons, the Fire Company decided not to terminate the services of the volunteer."
The statement, authored by two attorneys, lamented the closure of the station, and said the township was depriving the community of 37 firefighters and three firetrucks during emergencies. About 800 of Haverford Township's fewer than 50,000 residents live in Bon Air.
The statement from the fire company urged residents to "please let their commissioners know that the Township is wrong to close the Bon Air Fire Company.""

There was nothing racist about his actions. The only complaint listed what an reference to what the SPLC claims about the rhetoric of the Proud Boys.

Liberals are petty tyrants. Vicious petty tyrants who want people to live in fear and conform to their ever change bullshit rules.

I grew up near there in Delaware County, PA, but that was a long time ago. Now it is just an extension of PC, SJW, Progressive Philadelphia. Those people get offended by a butterfly getting to close to them.

What's wrong with being anti-Muslim ?

Wouldn't it be unpatriotic to NOT BE anti-Muslim ? :dunno:

Dear protectionist
It's American tradition to respect freedom of both religious and political beliefs, exercise and expression.
It's American to PROTEST, argue and debate about those beliefs as well.

What's unconstitutional is abusing GOVT to "establish or prohibit" someone's individual free exercise of religion.

Muslim beliefs in and of themselves is not the problem, but the ABUSE crossing over into POLITICAL RELIGION and imposing the "religious beliefs through Govt" is what comes in conflict with American laws and traditions of freedom of religion and not mandating church authority or beliefs through the state.

American citizens, have the right to participate in the political process, which includes polices and laws that will impose beliefs and actions onto the American population.

Religious Citizens, have the right to do that, and WILL DO THAT, no matter what religion they are.

Any group coming here in large numbers, will be part of that, and will have it's voice in the culture and laws and policies of the future.

Being for or against that, based on what that will mean, for America and Americans, is completely valid.

Wow the extremist group Southern poverty law center calls someone extreme. Call me shocked. The really funny thing is these idiots shut down a whole fire house obviously putting people and property at risk just because someone chooses to be a part of an organization.

When do they start removing people who want to be members of the Elks or Oddfellows from the state?

Jeez, they act like he was espousing his political beliefs, and forcing the people to watch him demonstrate when he was fighting a fire (doing his job). That can't be cool. Maybe if he did it on TV, and kneeled at the same time? Oh wait.

I think the Township should simply require firefighters to sign an agreement that says they will uphold the Constitution of the United States. Police have to sign such a statement, and Firemen are often their number one assistants and informants when it comes to cleaning up dirty jobs. In fact, in some communities, the Top Cop and Fire Chief are considered in one and the same department. Problem solved.

What an uncommonly silly and dangerous thing to do. There has been a sharp decrease in the number of volunteer firefighters, so it is rather dumb to shutter an entire department over a volunteer’s private association.

Because it's more important to root out ideologically impure and unacceptable people than to have enough fire fighters on hand when people's homes are burning down.
McCarthyism and blacklisting comes roaring back after a 70 year hibernation and this time it's the left holding the torches and pitchforks.

Wow! Unusual wisdom from a leftie. Maybe there is hope for Mankind

Apparently the voulneteer tried to resign from the department, but the board refused to accept it, so the township shuttered the whole operation.

I’m a libertarian and the very soul of wisdom...and humility.

Don't forget that the "Proud Boys" are not only racist, they are also involved in hatred of the female sex. The "Proud Boys" are a hate group opposing one-half of the world's population.
