There has been a lot of discussion on Elon Musk, as he is a man having quite an impact right now.

I think we should take a momen to consider TWO points that I think SHOULD have defined most people's opinion of him, BEFORE doge.

1. His moving electric cars into the mainstream. Yes the tech has been there, but lots of tech is "there" but never seems to be available for the masses. I personally don't care, but anyone that believes in "global warming" should give this guy massive street cred for moving this industry forward. Hell, if you take lefties at their stated word, they should be looking at him as "World saver" or some such... title.

2. Self driving cars. This is one I DO care about. I've seen older people, Hell, I HAVE an older relative right now, struggle(ing) to maintain independent living and losing the ability to drive is a major... event in a decline of quality of life for older people. IMO, Musk has shaved decades off the time it will take for this tech to be available to the average person and for that, I am PERSONALLY grateful, becasue of that effect that will have for untold millions of old people including eventually myself.

In a sane world, this should have bene ELON MUSK, the public persona.

the starting point before DOGE.

You should add this link to your OP before a mod closes it. It needs a link.

Thanks. That's weird though. They aren't open to the idea that we the members might have original thoughts worthy of discussion?

Mass production of electric cars began in 2010 with the Nissan Leaf, though the history of electric vehicles dates back to the 1830s.

Mass production of cars with self-driving capabilities began in the late 1990s and continued into the mid-2000s.
  • The first production car with active lane-keeping assist was the 2006 Lexus LS 460.

  • The first self-driving car to travel long distances was the Navlab 5 minivan, which drove from Pittsburgh to San Diego in 1995.

  • The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded research into autonomous vehicles in the 1980s.

  • Carnegie Mellon University's Navigation Laboratory (Navlab) produced several experimental self-driving cars.

  • In 1986, a Mercedes van developed by German engineers became the first vehicle to drive autonomously.
More recently, companies like GM, Uber, and Waymo have invested in self-driving car technology.

There is a required format for an OP.
1. clean start, meaning not a one-sided troll thread
2. a link supporting your position
3. personal content

And Hitler brought us the Volkswagen, an inexpensive automobile for the common man. That is irrelevant to defining anyone's opinion. Musk is not an engineer. He's not a scientists. He didn't invent electric cars or automated control systems. He bought the company from other people that were responsible for creating the company. He's a salesman. That's all he is, a salesman with bipolar disorder that he has difficulty managing.

I fail to find your point salient. It's more specious, if not spurious. Your claim is that an opinion of someone SHOULD be based on a first impression.

1. Nazis are an irrelevant fringe today. Mentioning them is meaningless.

2. The self driving car will benefit tens of millions. Thanks to musk I am confident it will be ready for me, when I need it. not to mention saving us from the idiocy of millions of alcoholic drivers.

Musk is not doing anything that has not been done before.

So before Musk, please list the private companies that have put men into orbit and gotten them onto and off of the ISS.

So before Musk, please list the private companies that have put up their own satellite based internet completely without gov't support, developing not only the actual internet system itself but the rockets to put it into space.

Go.

Musk is an opportunist. AGW is a control scam. Insulated, ostentatious, virtue-signaling white democrats buy EV’s for showing off. Musk figures if there is a market of suckers, they may as well buy from him as buy from the next guy.
Whenever I see a Tesla, I’m put into a foul mood because I’m reminded of the economic pain these phony AGW sheep abet.

Fair enough. My point about the self driving cars is still true though.

I will be needing them if a couple of decades, and I don't want to be fucking HEARING about how close the tech is, while I am stuck at home because I can't drive.

It's also important to point out that Democrats rail against the one percenters and what Musk is doing now and yet they did EV mandates, regulations, and incentives to make Elon richer. They did the same thing with Big Pharma during the pandemic in making vaccine mandates to make Big Pharma richer.

The Leaf was a disaster, Tesla is a winner.

I have personally benefited from Musk's StarLink. Before that I had crappy cable and/or DSL that would go out for long stretches. Some, like Hughes, were just too expensive and had too much latency. Musk has already saved me $$.
