Other experts at the museum said this was: “The most important archaeological discovery for understanding the early Christian church.

Amazing find and it testifies to the Faith of early Christians. The actual translation is "God Jesus Christ".

The most important part is stating that they believed Jesus was "Christ".

The term "god" in those days could have been given to any deity - especially in Pagan Rome.

It may sound strange to us but the word "god" in those days would denote any being that was considered divine or from divine origin. It would have been (almost) the equivalent of putting Mr. in front of someone's name.

To this day, many surnames from latin origin still contain the letters "dio" within their names - meaning "god".
