Sanders won't do it, but someone needs to run as an independent candidate that appeals to the left. There is a window of opportunity here. Someone is going to take advantage of this.

If a left-leaning independent candidate steps in, you can bet a right-leaning independent candidate steps in as well. Electoral vote broken up four ways makes it a whole lot more likely for any of the four to win. This should be very appealing to opportunists and/or people who want to step in and make a difference but aren't sure there is a path to victory
