Door way on Mars. Natural erosion?

The 'doorway' seen on Mars is not for aliens. Here's how it really formed. Lets see some opinions on this. The article says it is a 3-foot opening made by natural erosion. I think it is worth it for the Rover to get a closer look.
Definitely, size isn't relevant in relation to intelligence. One of our earliest ancestors was Australopithecus, males averaged 4-11 and females 3-5. Mars is roughly half the size of Earth, maybe life forms that live there were only half the size of us. I don't know but the rock strata on each side of the doorway looks like it was precisely laser cut and then within the doorway it looks like it's been reinforced with a concrete type substance. I hope the Rover can go into the cave, if it still exists.

Yesterday they had an updated photo of the door and it definitely looks like a door. Rover must have finally reached it, there's nothing to compare the size of the door but it looks bigger than 3 ft too.. sorry I don't know how to link.

Never mind, I see I didn't read all the posts until now, I see you already got it. Let's all hope the Rover goes inside the cave and NASA actually publishes those photos too. " GOD " willing ?!?

You mean that the Martians should be smart enough to be OK with a remote device, sent by the U.S. government, rolling into their home?
An unmanned, unarmed device would be perceived by an advanced civilization as an effort to gain knowledge, not an attack.

Then let us hope that if Earth ever receives such a device, yours is the first house it visits.

Ask the decendents of the Powhaten people about the benefits of contact with advanced civilizations.

If you can find any.

My original statement was hopefully they're not as stupid as earthlings. In the scenario of the American colonists and Powhatan empire, everyone involved were earthlings. Intellectual curiosity is a good thing, suspicion is emotionally based and is not helpful. Unfortunately it's part of the makeup of earthlings.

It's from our evolution.

People who let random strangers into their homes during the primitive times did not survive as well as people who were suspicious.

That is true in these times, as well.

The Powhatan example you gave was the poor one. As I remember, they were a trading people. Unfortunately, trading with the new white people brought them terrible hardship in the way of disease. What few remained alive, fled the cursed land and joined other tribes creating more hardship on them, further spreading the disease. The only token I have left of them is a seashell with the carved face on it.

So, how is that a bad example of how a visit from an advanced civilization can have unintended, negative consequences?

We do not get a definitive answer of life on Mars. Something supported by the whole spectrum. We keep sending unmanned craft there though.

You're implied that their demise was intended by the military advanced civilization, it was not. Besides the Powhatans we're actually the advanced civilization,. The English just thought they were superior. By the way, whatever life was once on Mars is long gone. And human life on this Earth appears to be falling the same pattern. We were capable of becoming so much more.

Hopefully we will have the answers soon.

Yes, and when an alien spacecraft lands on our planet, it may well be here in a spirit of pure altruism, rarely seen on Earth.

That doesn't mean that it won't bring the Andromeda Flu that wipes us all out.

A truly intelligent species capable of traveling that great distance with most likely have a lot of safety protocols in place. Reasonable caution would be the best scenario for both sides. Fears and suspicions serve no one well. Anything can happen in the first encounter, a common earth saying is, " Hope for the best, plan for the worst. "

This is likely one of the most pointless exchanges on this forum and fool that I am, I've been furthering it. I've enjoyed it though, so I'll leave you with a final thought, and then let you have the last word:

Your assumption that aliens, advanced enough to travel to Earth would obviously be far wiser and more benevolent than we stems from the same self-hatred that makes Americans travel to foreign countries and apologize for being Americans.

But the solution is simple: When the aliens land, volunteer to drive the welcome wagon to meet and greet them. When the rest of us see what happens to you, for the good or for the bad, we'll be prepared for a more informed approach.
