We have to rely on Title 42 to protect our border? Really?

How did we get to this point of insanity? We are the most powerful country in world and we are pinning our last hopes of controlling the border on some obscure health law called Title 42? WTF??? Is this reality or bizzarro world? You know how you stop the flow of illegals? You inform the Mexican government that we are taking control of THEIR BORDER and THEIR AIRPORTS and THEIR BUS and TRAIN STATIONS since they are facilitating an attack on our country. We do this with our military and national guard. Will we ever do that? Of course not, we are led by spineless weasels who only care about getting re-elected and keeping the other party out of office. Be thankful for the country you have had the privilege to live in. Because that country is gone.

Actually, we can't do that with our army and national guard because they are SPECIFICALLY PREVENTED BY US LAW from doing that. Also, it's not what they are trained for.

Here's how you control the border.

Go after the rich white assholes who keep hiring them.

And some of the middle class white assholes who complain to high-heaven about "the wetbacks", but will drive over to the Home Depot to pick up a truckload of them to finish that DIY project that turned out to be harder than Chip and Joanna made it look.

We are under attack, therefore we can and should use our military to stabilize a hostile country.

That argument only holds water if jobs are the only factor that motivates illegal border crossings.

And if the government is good at preventing high profit crime by "going after" those who are committing it.

Jobs are the main motivator.

Let's look at the pattern of illegal border crossing.

Note where you have dips in the number of crossing. It dipped in 2002, after a recession broke out. Dipped again in 2007, itting a low point in 2011. and dipped again in 2020, during the Covid-recession. It's spiking now because we have 1.8 million unfilled jobs in this country at any given time.

We could solve the immigration crisis by cracking down on the people who hire them, but we won't because we need that labor. We just won't admit it to ourselves.

No, we cannot solve the immigration crises by cracking down on people who hire illegals, because of exactly what I said or implied in the post you responded to.

Jobs are a factor, but they are not the only motivator of illegal immigration. There is our far higher standard of living, far superior medical system, and a welfare system that is both generous to those legally eligible and easily defrauded by those who are not.

Plus, you may have forgotten that the Democratic line is that many if not most are fleeing persecution and so should be given asylum whether they are eligible to apply or not. How does cracking down on employers prevent that?

Government is not good at preventing the operation of lucrative organized crime such as paying low wages to illegal aliens. If a man kills his wife in a fit of rage over her unfaithfulness, the government is pretty good at catching him and locking him up for long periods. But, it sucks at stopping organized crime. Not just our government but all governments throughout history.

To stop immigration from continuing to be a crises, we have to reform our immigration laws to legally allow in the number of low-wage workers we actually need. This number will be subject to negotiation among people who represent business interests and people who represent low-skilled Americans likely to be displaced by those low-wage workers. No one should be allowed in without being immediately eligible for a work permit and employers should be at the border to vouch for the job they have waiting for the guest worker/immigrant.

But we can't implement any of that if we do not physically control our border so that we - not the cartels - decide who comes into our country and who does not. Controlling borders is something that governments have always been good at and for good reason. A country can exist with organized crime, but if it has no real borders, it is not a real country. Any government that failed to secure its own border will cease to exist and be replaced by a government that can.

Why do you think Biden is so interested in securing Ukraine's border?

Whatever else you may answer, can you please explain how these people walked to our border from Haiti?

What jobs do you envision them taking from Americans?

There are two reasons for our porous borders…

1. We allow them to be controlled by law enforcement units rather than the US Military.

2. The politicians are actually enticed to maintain a porous border by an economy/employers who prefer illegal immigrant labor over American labor

None of which you can access without a job. That's kind of the point. You can't really access them with a job under the table.

Plus, you may have forgotten that the Democratic line is that many if not most are fleeing persecution and so should be given asylum whether they are eligible to apply or not. How does cracking down on employers prevent that?

It shouldn't. We should be holding expeditious hearings on asylum claims and welcoming those who qualify. The fact that the Orange Shitgibbon so fouled up that system that we have years of backlogs is the problem there.

Actually, they've pretty much put the Mafia out of business... And cracking down on the people who hire them WOULD be easy. But those people are rich, and white. So we don't. They claim they had NO idea that Lupe, who is just like a member of the family, didn't have her papers in order for six years.

Actually, it's only a crisis to the Fox-news listening moron who lives in mortal fear that his daughter might date a Mexican. Yes, a guest worker program would solve some of the problem, but only if you make the penalties for hiring undocumented workers severe enough. A guest worker is going to actually think he has rights or something.

But we can't implement any of that if we do not physically control our border so that we - not the cartels - decide who comes into our country and who does not. Uh, yeah, your fear of Mexicans moving in isn't a crisis. Most undocumented immigrants didn't sneak across the border, they came here on tourist, student, marriage, or work visas and outstayed them.

Why do you think Biden is so interested in securing Ukraine's border?

The Ukraine is being invaded by a hostile country in violation of international law.

I imagine they'd do very well not matter what they do.

Here's the thing. Haiti is as miserable as it is because of 100 years of shitty American policy. We welcome Cubans with open arms but send Haitians back.
