Donald Trump Rejoices Over West Point Canceling Tom Hanks Award Ceremony: ‘We Don’t Need Destructive, Woke Recipients Getting American Awards’

View attachment 1159578

I could not agree more.

The West Point awards ceremony was supposed to take place Sept. 25. Hanks was to be honored as an “outstanding citizen” outside of the West Point organization with a history of social service that exemplifies “Duty, Honor, Country,” the academy’s three core ideals.

What makes Tom such an outstanding citizen? Is it because he got insanely wealthy making movies or the fact that he is a left wing cook who got insanely wealthy making movies.

Idiocy.
Trump got to be an outstanding citizen by being elected President of the United States. What the hell was Hanks ever elected to? Even though he was wounded on a campaign tour, Trump shed blood for his Country. Hanks only pretended to shed blood. in a movie. It's time that West Point Cadets faced the reality of life in the Military rather than celebrating pretend heroes who probably don't share their version of patriotism.

Tom Hanks best work was his series "Bosom Buddies."

He never outdid that. He was some okay comedy movies, on the strength of that role. Once he played the finocchio with AIDS in Philidelphia, and they gave him an Oscar for "courage" instead of talent, he became insufferably pretentions and his movies became snooze-fests.

I literally fell asleep during "Forest Gump" and woke up kicking myself for not just watching "Pulp Fiction" again.

If you watch the director's cut of That Thing You Do, first it's almost a completely different movie and I recommend it... and second, you find out Hanks' character is gay and he's dating Howie Long... well, Howie Long's character...

I didn't see the movie the first time.

So, in the theatrical release, Hanks' character was not presented as gay but only in the Director's cut? Interesting.

Edit: I see that Tom's old Bosom Buddy, Peter Scolari is in it. He had the only real dramatic scene in that series. A much better actor IMHO.

Tom put a lot of effort into getting the WWII generation the recognition it deserved as the bulk of them were finally reaching the end of their lives.

He's a lefty tool, but he has done some good work with regards to the WWII generation and their legacy.

WHAT!!!!!

The WW2 generation got every bit of the attention, and much more, that they deserved.

After the War, they RAN the Country. Dozens of them became famous actors, they were at the head of every major company, ran the media, industry, education, politics -- Everything. And look at the bang-up ******* job they did. The SHIT they left us with.

I don't buy into the "Greatest Generation" bullshit because that's what it is -- Bullshit. Study up on it and you'll see that I'm right. As usual.

No offense but I don't wanna hear about WW2 Vets getting recogniton. At all. No way, no how. They did their Duty, No more, no less.

NINE (9) WW2 Veterans were elected President. Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter

Tom seems like a real loser. Maybe it should go to a real American hero, like a Trump family member?

“Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers and their family, and more for the American space program and all branches of government than many other Americans,” says the Honorable Robert A. McDonald, Class of 1975, WPAOG Board Chairman.

Much of Hanks’ five-decade career reflects his support of veterans, the military, and America’s space program. In 1999, Hanks joined Senator Bob Dole, a 2004 Thayer Award recipient, as national spokesperson for the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. Continuing his commitment to honor those who serve, in 2015, the actor lent his support to Dole’s fundraiser to create the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial in Washington, DC. He has also served as national chairperson of the D-Day Museum Capital Campaign.

In 2017, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation named its Caregiver Champion Award, honoring the extraordinary support of military caregivers and their veterans, after Hanks. Senator Elizabeth Dole, the 2023 Thayer Award recipient, tapped Hanks to chair the foundation’s Hidden Heroes campaign. “He certainly lives up to the criteria of ‘a great American,’” Dole says.

Hanks earned his first Oscar nomination for “Best Actor” in 1988 for Big, and back-to-back Oscars for leading roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. In 1995, Hanks starred in Apollo 13. In 1998, Hanks starred as Army Captain John H. Miller in Saving Private Ryan, which earned praise, notably from the World War II veteran community, for its realistic depictions of combat. For his portrayal of a World War II Army Ranger company commander, Hanks was inducted as an Honorary Member into the U.S. Army’s Ranger Hall of Fame. He executive-produced the miniseries Band of Brothers in 2001, The Pacific in 2010, and Masters of the Air in 2024. He also wrote and starred in Greyhound, a 2020 film about the Battle of the Atlantic, in which he played a U.S. Navy commander. In recognition of his public platform bringing World War II stories to new generations, the National WWII Museum presented Hanks with its American Spirit Award in 2015. Hanks supports military personnel through the profits and initiatives of his coffee company, Hanx for the Troops, founded in 2023.

Under his Playtone banner, Hanks executive-produced and narrated the 1998 HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and co-wrote and co-produced the 2005 3-D IMAX film Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon. In between these projects, Hanks received the NASA Public Service Award for his commitment to increasing public interest in space. Hanks has received the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Chaplin Award in 2009, a Kennedy Center Honor in 2014, France’s Legion D’Honneur Award in 2016, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the United States’ highest civilian honor—in 2016 for his meritorious contribution to American culture. Hanks and his wife of 35 years, Rita Wilson, also support health-related charities including the Children’s Health Fund, Women’s Cancer Research Fund, and the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

What in your opinion is a loser?

Is a winner someone that is able to make lots of money or someone who is at the top of their profession?

We all know who the Left thinks are "winners" and a wonderful human being because they hold luncheons for them to celebrate them

I literally posted Tom's biography below the piece you quoted that listed all the things he's done for veterans and the military. Its quite extensive. But to answer your question I think working class folks who vote for me to get large tax breaks are losers... i dont mind though cuz they make me a winner. I thank you.

We all know it's not about his "work", it is his politics.

We all know that if Tom were MAGA, the award never would have been made.

We all know apparently but YOU!

How many years did it take for them to get a memorial in DC?

The fact that the Insurrectionist-in-Chief accused Hanks of being "destructive" is farcical.

Jimmy Carter was not a WWII vet. He did not graduate from the naval Academy until 1946, after the war.

Tom Hanks doesn't deserve that award.

Well, I really enjoyed him on TV

Hanks served an Undesignated Seaman stint which is a lot more than most can say.

As an enlisted sailor, Hanks completed boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois, after which he was assigned to the USS Hassayampa, a Navy oil tanker. He served from 1980 to 1982 before leaving the Navy due to his growing acting ambitions. During his two years of service, Hanks had the opportunity to work alongside other sailors and experience life at sea.

It can be rightfully stated that the .mil are his peers so if they wanted to award him it would be fine with me.
Eh? The navy let him out because he wanted to be an actor?

It was there that he first developed his fondness for seamen.
