Does Debt Really Matter

LOL!!! OK, so we're both together on the fact that we need to cut spending on social programs?

it depends what it is. Name something you think we are spending way too much money on and we can go from there. What about reducing the number of military bases we have around the world by at least 10%? What about raising taxes on corporations and the insanely wealthy? Trump's tax cuts for the rich for example could pay for medicare twice over and then some, or pay for it for over 2 years. No amount of government cuts on social programs or anything else would have accounted for that large a sum. Not cutting taxes on the rich would have saved 2 trillion.

Debt is really not a big deal. If it was it would have been addressed 60 years ago.

Not with the economy, I didn’t blame Biden for inflation, and if I did it was in threads when partisan dumbasses want to give Biden credit for the economy for the rebound economy from Covid.

The economy has so many moving parts and so many factors out of the Presidents control, the link I shared with you proved that but hey, I don’t care if you want to be ignorant and work for your master.

So Biden wasn't responsible for the American rescue plan act, the infrastructure investment and jobs act and the inflation reduction act? These initiatives, which helped bring the economy out of covid faced enormous opposition from republicans. The inflation reduction act in particular needed a tie breaker in the senate in order for it to be passed. US gdp is currently higher than it was pre pandemic. You're telling me if Trump were president, a republican, he would have achieved the same results, when his party was against all the initiatives Biden wanted? The same initiatives which gave us the top economy among all the western nations that came out of the pandemic? Stop, just stop. I don't even like Biden but you have to give credit when credit is due, otherwise you are exactly what you claim others to be, a partisan dumbass.

Debts should be lower. And that's what this conservative thinks. It would be a blessing to the future if we prioritized getting rid of all debts. Even as I think, we must also consider taking care of impoverished people with greater needs than most of our fellow travellers. Nobody knows if we can lift the poor and help them as needed. I was going through a set of ideas but couldn't prove anything. I picked up my bible, and the page opened up to one of Christ's support for us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Somehow, I realized that with those words, Christ successfully makes us think that is likely the most challenging commandments in the whole Bible. I tried it. It's hard, but I am going to stick to it for the duration. Good luck to all of you who find that challenge essential. Love, beautress

The poor don't affect the debt.

Does debt really matter? The people to whom I owe money seem to think so...

This is what I was saying before...
..So we cut spending. Most of our money goes to "social programs" so that's probably where the biggest hit goes...
The numbers for 2023 are...

4-14-08tax_rev7-18-24_f1.webp

--so social programs (health, social security, economic security, and education) use up 58% of the money and the military's already been cut back to 13%. We eliminate defense we save $580B. We eliminate social programs we save $2,580B. Fifty years ago defense was more than half the budget, now it's an eight. IOW, it's already been cut. a lot.

Good question.

Something we need to remember is that what we can do is raise tax rates. There's doubt as to whether we can get more revenue by raising rates more. The top income tax bracket used to be 97%. Most stopped working and we got very little revenue. Now the top bracket is at 37%. We get a lot more revenue. Some say we could increase revenue more by lowering more, others say we could raise rates & get more revenue.

We'd need to take a very sober approach to this before we did it. While we're thinking the national debt is increasing.

Yes, they did they helped extend inflation and put the US further deepen our debt, but Congress carries more blame and it also helped the rich get richer.

How did it help extend inflation? Inflation was inevitable because of supply chain issues and then the Ukrainian war with Russia. The entire world went through inflation. If you have an issue with the rich getting richer, what would have happened under a Trump presidency? Listen to him talk about the economy. His plan to lower grocery prices and lower housing costs is to drill for oil and tariff. That's all he ever says because he has no real solutions or ideas. This is the man, who would take us out of the pandemic better than before? You might as well ask for economic advice from a 3rd grader.

Illegal aliens.

According to the CBO, these same aliens will generate nearly 9 trillion dollars over the next 10 years, in taxes. Whatever money is spent on migrants now will be returned back to the US many times over and that's an understatement. If your concern is money, then there's zero argument to be made for the entry of migrants into the US. What I find funny about xenophobia is that many of you will never see a migrant in your lifetime. Maybe some of you might see a few here and there and that'll be it. You'll have spent decades complaining about a right wing talking point that doesn't affect you in the least and run counterpoint to your argument that it costs the US too much money to process them.

Those are real solutions. 90% or so of goods are transported by trucks. Fuel costs have a significant impact on inflation. Labor costs too. You libs and your stupid “living wage”

They sound awesome!
Imagine all the good they'll do when they move back and generate all those taxes for their home country.

You might want to double check your fake tax figures.

Cutting social security and medicare would severely hurt working people. Bad idea but supported by the Uber wealthy.

Congress pumped over $7 trillion into the economy, of course it caused inflation, why wouldn’t it.

NOTHING EVER CHANGES. NOT REALLY. Except the FED is the one in control, the debt gets larger, the interest payments are getting bigger and bigger, and regardless of party, economic growth is being squeezed completely out, DESPITE the bullshit propaganda from BOTH parties.

No matter WHO gets elected? Economic growth will shrink, because of national debt, THAT affects growth, and it has been since Reagan started his deficit spending and we have been ignoring it.

Get out of Trump cult, Get out of GOP Cult, Get out of DNC cult? GET OUT OF FEDERAL RESERVE CULT.

Why deficits stopped mattering : Magic or Conspiracy ?

Example of stuff covered in this article;

"THE MEDIA IS FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN

This goes way beyond issues of "liberal" or "conservative" bias. Through the use of media blackouts, smear/disinformation campaigns, and false narratives, US media shields the government from all forms of accountability.

1) MEDIA BLACKOUTS

There are entire subjects of the highest importance which are being systematically ignored by mainstream media. These topics are so toxic, the facts so damning, that no one will touch them. The results are total media blackouts.

Below is an example of what such a blackout looks like.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
MEDIA BLACKOUT: CIA's role in contra drug trafficking. . . "

<snip>

". . . WHY DON'T YOU KNOW ABOUT IT?

vvvvvvvvvvvvv

Media blackouts don't just cover government frauds. The basic background/historical knowledge necessary to understand the frauds is also blacked out, as is any knowledge which might undermine the dollar by suggesting future inflation (ie: how China's dollar peg works). As a result, the average American is amazingly uninformed about how the world really works. I am talking about the real mechanics behind the scenes (ie: how our monetary system works, how clearing in equity market works, who is in charge of defending the dollar (it isn't the fed), etc). This general lack of understanding makes it frustratingly difficult to have any serious discussion about government fraud (how do explain murder to someone who doesn't understand the concept of death?).

Another affect of keeping the world uninformed is that it hides the government's motive to commit fraud. Without understanding how sharply the government's self-interest diverges from their own, it is hard for people to accept government dishonesty.
Consider, for example, how the government benefits profits from the "war on drugs."
