60 years ago most americans did not have health insurance and health care was fine and much much cheaper. Health care works better without a third party payment system. If everyone has to pay their own medical bills.then

1. People take care of their health and when they got sick, they doctor themselves

2. People haggle with doctors over prices

3. There is very little fraud.

I totally agree because then the price of medical care would go down since hospitals can only charge what the average person can afford. Banning health insurance might be a great idea.

60 years ago, the average life expectancy was 62 years. It was cheaper because pretty much all doctors could do for a lot of situations was say, "You're going to die!"

What sort of an authoritarian do you have to be to propose banning an entire industry that offers products that people willingly buy and sell? How about we get government OUT of the healthcare business and allow the free market to determine prices for a change? Can we try that?

Tell you what: You "doctor yourself" by removing your own appendix with a hacksaw, then get back to us with the results and let us judge for ourselves, mmkay?

Don't be a pessimist. You still have time to rehabilitate.

We can use rum as an anesthetic, we can stop all the public health efforts like immunizations, we should be looking for more cemetery space though.

What an asinine idea! Eliminate health insurance? Let's light road hazards with smudge pots, eliminate safety glass in windshields and bring back the lawn dart too!

No.

I support cheap health INSURANCE, which is impossible because the US gov and its cronies. The problem has existed far longer than obamacare, which is unfortunately something many people miss. But of course, the OCare has made the problem worse. Ironically the name of the law is "Affordable care act". Isn't it funny how govt always names the laws to be exactly opposite of what they accomplish?

Currently it's difficult to even call the insurance policies insurance, given they operate against all the sane principles of insurance.

Only if everyone gets free medical care.

Insurance was a great idea. At first, it was much the same as auto or home insurance. It wasn't too expensive and it was meant to be used for catastrophic events, such as bad accidents or serious illnesses. Short of those, people paid as they went.

It was government that tied it to employers, prevented insurance companies from competing across state lines and, eventually, demanded that health insurance pay for every aspirin tablet. Once government got involved, things started getting more expensive and quality started suffering.

If insurance had been used as first intended and companies had been allowed to compete, we would have lower rates now.

We don't expect auto insurance to cover oil changes and we don't expect home owners insurance to pay for new appliances, yet we expect health insurers to cover every single thing.

The cost has gone up due to companies knowing insurance has to pay. And since so many don't pay anything, those with insurance saw much higher costs. An insured person would be billed close to $400 for getting stitches while an uninsured person would be billed around $150 for the same exact treatment.

We don't need to ban insurance companies, we just need to stop the government control and undo some of the unreasonable regulations.

I totally agree because then the price of medical care would go down since hospitals can only charge what the average person can afford. Banning health insurance might be a great idea.

I think you might be stumbling onto something here.

Should health care be a commodity like TV's or Cars or Appliances, that one's ability to pay for should dictate,

Or should it be a public service like police and fire protection that should be equally available to all.

The problem with your suggestion of the former is that when someone can't afford care anymore, they will simply be cut off until they die. I'm not sure that's a good idea.

The problem with private health insurance is that it works very well for people between the ages of 18-50, where you aren't going to have a lot of health issues.

After 50, you have a lot more, but if you had to pay for them, you probably couldn't afford them if you had an issue.

After 65, they compound, which is why you need a Medicare to cover everyone.

I wonder if all conservatives see healthcare as a commodity? Maybe thats where the disconnect is.

If you actually believe that people croaked exactly at 62 years of age then I would suggest you re-examine the notion of average because that is the stupidest assumption ever and it gets repeated over and over again by people. I also suspect that that number is wrong and someone should re-examine the data.

Our health care system "overhaul" had nothing to do with health or care.
We had the best health care in the world. And the worst, out of control insurance companies in the world. What we needed was an insurance overhaul. Competitive and capped.

Ban the product outright and doctors would be forced to charge a reasonable price for their services. I totally agree that the cost of health care has gone up to extremes but the cause is insurance companies themselves. Do you care what the cost of a medical procedure is if your insurance is covering it? Most people don't. They only care about the cost they pay every month. Banning health insurance may not be a bad idea at all!

We ban drugs. Why not health insurance?

Don't worry it won't happen because insurance lobbies politician harder than a stripper presses up against a rich guy.
