A negative cannot be proven. Demanding proof from a negative claimant does not exempt you from the easy task of proving your positive claim.

A duck exists. I can prove it by showing you a duck.
A duck does not exist. I cannot prove that to you.

God exists. I can prove it by showing you God.
God does not exist. I cannot prove that to you.

Xzertblovins exist. I can prove it by showing you a xzertblovins.
Xzertblovins does not exist. I cannot prove that to you.

I’m not sure why some people have logic repellent when it to the concept that a negative cannot be proven.

If someone says, "there is no God", then he should be able to back that up, or else admit he is just stating an opinion, not a fact.

I have never claimed that God exists, or doesn't exist, so I don't have to prove anything.

Thousands of years with no evidence? That doesn’t hint at hoax. That screams hoax. If God exists then He doesn’t want anybody to know it. If He possess omnipotence then he can keep this thibg going as long as He wants.
That's not a proof. I'm sure even you see that.

This is why I am more of an anti theist than an atheist. Your god gave you evidence that He exists and has barred you from sharing that evidence with me or anybody else.
Wherever did you get that bullshit that he barred me? All I said is that I have no way of proving to others what I experienced myself. If you cannot even bother reading much less comprehending what others say, you should just refrain from comment.

It is not your fault but your god is a dick and makes you look like one too.
I have no "god," and certainly not one who is a "dick" but it is rapidly becoming clear here just who here really is one.

If your god gives you evidence of His existence and you get to go to heaven for believing in Him yet I am given no evidence
Maybe if you just shut your big, fat, dumb mouth and opened your ears and heart instead, you would have the evidence you obviously neither truly want nor seek.

Maybe He doesn't.
Or maybe some people believe they have no use for God.

For me it comes down to a choice between worshipping the creator or worshipping the created.

A negative cannot be proven.
Response off the top of my head (w/o looking anything up): Depends on one's definitions or usage of "A negative" and "proven." Depends on the situation as well. Examples:

In math, 1 - 2 = -1
Assertion/Claim: One minus two yields a negative. A result less than zero. Consult a number line for "proof" that the result is "a negative."

I reluctantly must concur with ding's court example. One can "prove" the "negative" assertion of "not guilty" by providing a verified alibi.

The low level Google AI supplies much more on "A negative cannot be proven" including:

Why people say it:
    • Burden of proof:
The phrase is often used in debates to highlight that the burden of proof lies with the person making a positive claim (e.g., asserting that something does exist), not with the person denying it.
    • Misunderstanding of logic:
It's often mistakenly presented as a law of logic, but it's more accurately a guideline about the limitations of empirical proof, particularly in cases involving claims of non-existence.
