But yeah we were speaking about birds and parrots and has anybody ever seen that movie Paulie about the bird who can actually talk like a human and comprehend speech?

Buy a pet from a pet shop and you are paying people to be cruel to animals. My wife and I have had many pets over the years, and all have been rescue. Pets of some sort.

My most recent three very lovable German Shepherds, and our house was well guarded.

Animals are tuned in and only see the spirit.
Animals don't care if you are rich or poor, tall or thin, all they see is the soul.
That is how they know you are home before you come through the door.
That is why some dogs growl at strangers.

So all mailmen are evil? :D

I never saw a dog like a mail man.

Nope.

But I heard of a parrot that started to mimic the baby crying. The couple had to get rid of the bird because they couldn't tell the difference.

Ever hear about the robber who went into a house and found a parrot that kept repeating "Jesus is watching you?" What he didn't tell him is that Jesus was the family's Rottweiler.

I also heard of a bird that...at bed time...they would cover the cage & the bird would start yelling HELP! HELP! :auiqs.jpg:

Of the eight cats I've had in my life...
1. Stray
2. Stray
3. Stray (pregnant)
4 & 5. Born on Labor Day in my bedroom
6. Acquired (pure breed that needed rescuing)
7. Acquired
8. Acquired * Still living

Haven't bought one. It's not too hard to get one at a shelter or in a homeless cat community in need of a home.

Though the black kitty at my local PetSmart the other day sure was tempting (they do work with the local animal shelter).

I've also had rabbits as pets.

Interesting question. It must take a very tortured soul to want to end up working for the federal postal service.

I never saw a dog like a mail man.
I never saw a mail man deliver me anything I ever really wanted.
So the question becomes, is it the mailman himself the dog is going after or merely just the mail.

My Mocha (My Pittie) was adopted. I would never buy a dog/cat or any pets from a Pet store. I agree, you never put a price on pets.

I think Pet shops should just sell pet food, treats and toys. That's all.
Agree. I’ve adopted five cats (not all of them together…..over my 45 years of adulthood) from animal shelters. They all have been wonderful pets, and there is no reason to buy a pet from a store - thus encouraging the practice of selling them - when there are so many animals needing a home.

My last one was a stray rescued after a street fight, and he was a “project” for the first couple of months. But now he is an affectionate, loving companion.

I want to agree with you Lisa, all of my pets have been rescues except one taken from a friend of the family (I suppose that makes him a rescue too), but my only fear is that this then makes innocent pets taken to be sold at pet stores a death sentence if no one buys them there and that too then becomes a sort of rescue.

I would recommend rescues first because their time is most limited if not adopted, but just take a pet, any good pet, wherever you find them. The most important thing is that they just find a good home.

I understand your point. Thanks.

I don't. I don't think that a price tag should go on a life and adoption fees are different. You wouldn't sell your child and buy one would you so why would you buy a pet when you can easily adopt one (or multiple) that needs a home?

I would never buy a pet from a pet shop. I would go to a breeder if I wanted a purebred animal.

All of my pets have been rescues, except the horses.

My grey tabby came to me when her owner moved to an apartment where she could only have 2 pets. She had 5 cats and a dog. My cat had just died so I took one.

My other cat was deceased cat’s best friend. Her owner got a dog and she snuck in my house and stayed. Her former owner passed away so she’s my cat now.

My daughter’s two kittens came from a neighbour who was feeding a pregnant stray. She found homes for the babies.

The cat rescue has a store in a local mall. That cats are around $100 but they have all their shots and they’re neutered. I spent $600 on my “free” kitten getting him all his shots, bloodwork and having him neutered.

I would rather see people paying for pets and caring for them properly than just taking in strays and letting the breed indiscriminately.

I have never been to a pet shop because I have never needed to, just like guns, I don't buy guns at a gun shop, never needed to.

/----/ Pet stores are now outlawed in NY State because that is the most pressing problem in our state.
Why was New York's law changed?
New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law prohibiting the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits, which went into effect on December 15, 2024. This groundbreaking legislation will stop the flow of cruelly bred puppies to New York State's pet stores.

Not a bird guy...wouldn't have a clue what to do with it or even how to feed it.
/----/ I feed my bald eagle my neighbors' yappy little pocket dogs.

Huh? My parents took in a young stray, had her spayed, and took good care of her for 17 years.

All of my strays are neutered as well but a lot of people taking in a stray do not.

My former neighbour, my black cat’s former owner, would get animals and unless they were already neutered it, wasn’t happening. The black cat was neutered when she got her.

My daughters kittens are nearly old enough for their Spa Day. They were backyard rescues as well. Their mother was a feral.

I’m currently fostering a 6 month old female who was badly abused and half starved when I got her. She just had her first heat so we’ll get her done after Christmas.

We’d hoped to find her a forever home after she heals but she’s going to need more time. It took a week before I could touch her and her first reaction to anything is still teeth and claws. She’s still terrified of my cats and it’s been over a month.

She’s looking better although still thin. She doesn’t have much fur (lack of nutrition), but her coat now shines with health and she’s grown a lot.
