Do You Agree With Pet Shops?

I want to agree with you Lisa, all of my pets have been rescues except one taken from a friend of the family (I suppose that makes him a rescue too), but my only fear is that this then makes innocent pets taken to be sold at pet stores a death sentence if no one buys them there and that too then becomes a sort of rescue.

I would recommend rescues first because their time is most limited if not adopted, but just take a pet, any good pet, wherever you find them. The most important thing is that they just find a good home.
My experience has shown it's best to get a dog when he/she is 8 weeks old, then you raise them as you want. I lost one to illness and have three others. Every single one from 8 weeks old. All daft as a brush and as soft as putty.

Getting and older dog from a rescue centre runs the risk of it having a bad side to it's character if it had been mistreated.

I don't support puppy farms, those individuals needs the shit kicked out of them.

That might be true except that:
  • Doing so condemns all rescue dogs to death.
  • Most dogs are imminently trainable at most any age by the right person.
  • I have taken in strays which were 100% wild with some showing signs of mistreatment. In the end, they were the best of pets because the ultimate determination is less about the animal and more about the owner who teaches them.

Not really because you can't satisfy everyone by only allowing one source. Some will choose a rescued centre, some will adopt from an ad (say from Preloved), some will use a pet shop, and some will buy from a household where the pets had a litter.

My first two Jack Russells, I thought her season had come and gone. I was seeing a friend out and when I went into the living room, both were locked together. So a few months later, I had 4 puppies to sell.

If you choose a rescue centre, very good. I choose a puppy from a home to family pets. If we're banned to just reduce centres, would I have had to drown my litter?

No matter whether it's guns, knives, cars, puppies etc.. a small minority will abuse. I'm all for the supplier and buyer being vetted. Anyone can get a pet, have they been checked to be suitable? Living in squaller, low to zero income, no garden etc..

Animals see things people never do.

So that's why kitty must have chosen my yard instead of any UNFENCED yard around me?

It would have been easier to go into any other yard...but she came into mine and meowed for help.

I never owned a cat...never wanted to...but now I have a cat named "Kitty" and she is so proud to have a home, and breaffast...and a papa who loves her.

I understand your point. Thanks.

Me too.

Who says you can't take in a stray, have it neutered, and take care of it properly?

My cat was originally a stray and she was already fixed somewhere along the line but she had a big belly when she came to us (a friend of the family had her first but she could no longer keep her because her other cats were mean to her) so it has to be shaved to find out she was already spayed somewhere along the line.

/----/ I feed my bald eagle my neighbors' yappy little pocket dogs.

Poor doggie. 😞

Yes but older dogs need homes too and not everybody wants a puppy. Besides that puppies are a whole lot easier to adopt out than adult dogs. So it's really a compassionate act when somebody adopts an older dog. Same exact thing with cats and kittens.

Cats make wonderful pets.

If people wish to buy pets like Turdy Tommy or IQ-2.0 they should be allowed to , providing they make sure that the cage they display them in meets good standards of cleanliness with hot and cold water and a private bathroom .

I have so many dogs and cats behind me now…I feel so old. I’ve adopted shelter dogs, dogs from rescues, strays, owner give ups and I’ve purchased dogs from breeders. I think it’s a mistake to make generalizations about them based on where they come from. Some of the best and worst dogs I’ve had have been from shelters, some made me work a bit harder and learn a bit more to overcome their issues. I’ve had 3 from young puppyhood and they’ve been awesome dogs, but we did have issues pop up that had to be worked through. That said…I do not like pet shops that sell puppies, because the industry behind that is despicable and I don’t want to support it.
