In Indiana, they are using a "lottery" to determine which children will be cut from Head Start programs that help the poor. Since they ended children's bus service, it may not even matter.
Children cut from Head Start programs - Businessweek
Many of those poor were made poor by Republican policies. Using Tax Cuts and business subsidies to move the wealth of the nation to the top 1%. The explosion in CEO pay and benefits. Deregulation so what was illegal is now merely immoral (see? They didn't break any laws. Because we got rid of the laws. How neat and tidy.).
Targeting clean air and clean water.
Insisting people whose jobs were moved overseas and are now working for minimum wage get paid too much and eat too often.
Then there are all the comments about the unemployed being "hobos" and the poor being leeches. Feed the poor and they will breed. Look at what so many Republicans on the USMB say about the poor and the needy. We don't have to go far.
Considering the fact the Republican Party is based in the Deep South and the history of "Conservative Confederates" and the fact that those same conservatives left the Democratic Party in the 60's and became Republicans, I understand the deep hatred Republicans have for this president. I know it's not right, but I understand where it's coming from.
But this new found hatred of the poor I don't understand. Many of the Republican base, if not the majority, can be considered poor or right on the edge. How did this party get their own base to hate themselves?
Trying to hide behind of policy of "We are just trying to pay down the debt" won't work anymore. Every successful businessman in the world says it takes money to make money. We know why. It's called "investment". Simply redistributing the wealth to the top 1% is not investment. How many used the Bush Tax Cuts to move jobs to China?
I know right wingers on this board will scream "liar" and rant and rave. But they won't dispute it. How can they? We all read papers and watch the news. We know what's going on. Ayn Rand really has become the "High Priestess" of the Republican Party.
Now that Republicans have saddled the country with debt, seen to it jobs have been moved overseas, kept any investment in education or infrastructure from happening, put this country on a trajectory that will leave it a dirty and hollow shell, why keep going after the poor and the elderly? Is it just "sadism"? Just "meanness"? They just want to crush these people? For what? What's the purpose? Is there a purpose or has hatred simply overwhelmed them?
